Can anyone give an estimate, based off of previous releases, as to how long it'll take for a public release? I can't be the only one itching to jailbreak my iPad2.

I never really understood resolution independence. Can someone explain it in layman's terms?
Say you have 2 laptops with the same size screen, but different resolution screens, e.g. 17" LCD, one with 1920x1024 and another with 1440x768.
Right now the Apple menu and the text on it will appear smaller on the higher resolution screen, because the pixels are smaller and the size of the menu bar is defined in pixels.
On the resolution independant system the size of the menu bar (and everything else) will be the same, regardless of the size of pixels. So the menu bar will be 1/4 inch high instead of 25 pixels.

I didn't lose any. You can force iTunes to get brand new album art for your entire collection. See this (http://theubergeeks.net/2006/09/13/new-album-art/)
Yes, I did know that (but thanks anyway). In fact, I believe it is this particular feature that led to the mysterious disappearance (I think, at least) of album art. From your link:
WARNING: This process will take iTunes quite a while to perform. So do not do it if you dont have time to let it sit and do its thing. Also, do not do this if you have one-of-a-kind album art or you have scanned in album art, or even if you have albums in your collection from local bands that youve spent 8 weeks trying to find album art for them. They will not be found by iTunes get album art feature.
iTunes asked me if I wanted it to search for album art and I stupidly clicked 'yes' thinking it would get the ones I didn't have or fix some of the errors. Oh, well. Cool feature, nonetheless. Also, the "Cover Flow" feature, while cool as well, is quite taxing on my 1 Ghz G4. Something tells me it would be a little smoother on an 8-core Mac Pro. :D

I've taken excellent care of this iPhone for the past 5 months. There's nothing wrong with it internally or externally, and all the original parts and packaging are included.
I'm not familiar with how the switch-out process happens. Do I need to get my new phone before sending out the old one, so that I can swap sims? Or do I just need to plug in my new phone to iTunes and tell it to transfer the AT&T account over to it, and it'll disable the old one? How does it work?
I'm looking to get $350 for it.
Thanks

I think Linux might have a higher install base than Mac....
Don't know -- what does that matter to this topic?

Does anyone know what GPU you need to get resolution independence?
- Have an address bar so I can copy and paste file locations. Really useful to a developer, especially with working between the Finder and Terminal.
Drag-n-drop file/folder in terminal (you can drag icon in title bar too)
- Have a way of seeing how much disk space directories and their children take up, both with number sizes and graphically.
Info window? You won't have the graphical view, though.
Cool, at least now I'll be able to copy things from the Finder to the Terminal with your approach. Still won't work in reverse though.
The thing is that the size is around a six digit number, something that easily would fit in the existing Finder window, without needing another popup inspector window. Especially on small 1024x768 screens like my 12" iBook.
Web pages are NOT resolution independent for the most part.
Not disagreeing with you at all, but just thinking how sad this is. Anyone remember when HTML first came out, it was a language to describe the logical structure of a document, not really how to lay it out. The idea being that any browser on any platform or device could render it however. And here we are, where websites are made to fit only at 800x600 or 1024x768, and won't take advantage of larger resolution screens.
Yeah I don't think so. Unless you scale it to an exact multiple, it's going to look like crap.
Depends on the anti-aliasing algorithm. If it's done in hardware, then exact multiples shouldn't be an issue.
I'm with you all the way on this.
On the download, right-click yr desktop and click keep arranged by ...whatever you like... to prevent from the downloads stacking up eachother
Thank you, but I put my icons in specific places on my Desktop, so if I organised by name or anything, then it would jumble everything up.

ok so in itunes if I "convert to aac" is that taking my 320 and breaking it down?
I don't understand the last part, but I presume you meant to ask how iTunes transcodes to 320Kbit/s? Go to Preferences in iTunes like shown here (http://ipod.about.com/od/introductiontoitunes/ss/importsettings.htm) and select AAC and the bitrate you want and then you can re-rip the audio CDs.

Just wondering other ppl's experience with Firefox 4 on the MBA, I still use 3.6.17 and it's been great except for the Flash/YouTube fan issue.
Does the upgrade fix the issue by any chance? Any reason why I should not upgrade?

Or follow a nice, easy iPhone dev related Twitter list, which includes all the main players, like this one:
http://twitter.com/Aubin/iphone-jailbreak-teams
This also allows you to follow all the irrelevant re-tweets comex does, as if anyone cares what he thinks about non-jb topics.

The iPad is a direct competitor to consoles.
I plug it into my TV, grab my iPhone, and play games till I die ;)
Gee, will I be able to pickup a copy of SOCOM when it comes out next Tuesday for the iPad? Or Rockstars new game in May? This is just personal preference, but that's the stuff I want to play on my TV.

Interesting, but how much, significatly or not? cos reviewers on youtube say that image quality does not decrease too much.
i can buy only senior(2.3ghz, 1gb video ram) mbpro 15" with matte screen, but it costs nearly 3600$ here.
base models(2ghz, 256mb video ram) with matte screens need to be ordered, waiting time is more than 1month, but only one company sells them, with which i dont work as dont have discount.

I don't recall off the top of my head whether it's in /var/log/kernel.log or /var/log/system.log, but when the system boots back up, it provides a previous shutdown cause as an integer, and that integer can be used to point you in the right direction. There's not actually a list that's publicly available, but I might be able to find what it means for you.

does it have a vanity mirror?
Now there is an interesting twist. The display could turn into a mirror but instead of reflecting what they look like it could reflect what they want to look like. The computer would use something like Photoshop FL edition (For Ladies) to make them look like Kate Moss, Suzanne Summers, Petra Verkaik or their favorite star. A brave new world...

The base 27" last week was a 3.2 ghz i3... You sure your details are right?
the base i3 was 5900+ 32 bit and 6650+ 64 bit (geekbench scores)
5950 to 7950 32 bit
6650 to 8625 64 bit
for the same price seems like a nice upgrade to me.
NOW there was an upgrade from the 3.2 i3 to a 3.6 i5 dual...if I remember correctly.

That was a steal
You can get G4 towers very cheap these days - ignore the online reseller prices because they are often very high. Even MDD models are going for well under $100 these days if you look around. The Mac Mini has deflated the used value of G4 towers, and to a lesser extent, later Mac towers as well.

Similar for me... I spent about four years with Sprint and now about three with T-Mo. I've been happier with the latter, although I was close to switching to Verizon or Cingular. And we've done that thread a thousand times...
Ditto here. I was a longtime Verizon Wireless customer (3 or 4 years), was with AT&T Wireless briefly, and now I've been going on 5 years with T-Mobile. Of those, I've been most satisfied with T-Mobile. In NYC, Verizon does have better coverage, but their customer service is atrocious, and the phone selection will always be worse since they're CDMA.
...but I would be happy with either T-Mobile or Cingular for the iPhone. I'm happy to stay with T-Mobile, but wouldn't mind switching to Cingular's rollover minutes. Plus it sounds like Cingular is well ahead of T-Mobile in terms of rolling out 3G/4G level broadband.

I'm thinking I'm going to go to either this one or sherman oaks, that is if they know they're going to have white iphones. Anyone have any experience lining up at this store?
From what I understand, there will be no white phones for a while. And I have heard that sherman oaks is better, not sure why.

RAM is very cheap right now. If you can or are interested in doing so, I'd say make the jump to 4GB and go with 64-bit. I'm sure Auto-CAD 2012 could easily take advantage of the extra RAM. Plus, Mac OS X loves RAM, so both OS's would benefit. I have a MacBook Pro 4.1 as well, and one of the first things I did was upgrade the RAM to 4GB. I noticed a nice increase in speed from 2GB in both OS X and Windows. Windows 7 64-bit runs flawlessly for me. I'd highly recommend going this route.
