As a parent of a college freshman, after having dealt with Windows computers for many years, I can't imagine sending the kid off to school with a Windows machine. So far, not one problem with his macbook, not one virus, not one problem with spyware. Not one problem with theft! ( I locked it to his desk and won't tell him the combination....) ( he did come home the other day asking where my skill saw was, however,.... Hmmmmmm.....)

Looks like they are using Google's database of phishing sites!
Yep, and this was reported by Appleinsider last Friday. Looks like they were right.

No word on Garageband?
They probably don't want you to make music or burn it to dvds anymore- just buy stuff on their itunes store.
Without idvd or garageband, it's a useless upgrade for me.

I'm pretty sure the box size is bigger than a Mini and smaller than at Mac Pro. And the price tag is $1499. (and it's not an iMac).
MacBook?? :D

Darn guys, do you think it would be smarter for me to buy my core 2 duo macbook after the leopard release?Only if you're gonna wait for the first hardware refresh after Leopard is out, unless $129 is gonna ruin your life then if you buy this hardware now.
i.e. the MacBook C2D hardware is not going to change before Leopard is released next Spring. I think it's highly likely the next MacBook refresh will be several months beyond Leopard's release. Ability to engineer and deploy Santa Rosa improvements won't be possible before late June-July '07.
So unless you are so miserly that you can't afford another $129 then, I think you should buy it in January so you can save another $79 on iLife '07. :)

Oh please. word opens in like less than a second and I only have a core duo and 1.5gbs of ram.
On my core duo 2GHz 1GB RAM MB, Word can take 10-12 seconds before actually bringing up the project gallery window. now, this won't take that long again so long as i dont reboot my computer, but after word is up, it begins to lag to the point when it takes slightly longer to respond to my keystrokes. it can actually be frustrating when writing really long papers. I plan on getting more RAM, hopefully that'll do the trick.

So far, nothing for me to buy, though the new nano's, especially the 8GB is really damn cool.

nice! hey did i hear they released a 460 x2?
Wow never heard of that! Google found this, Zotac GTX 460x2 (http://www.nordichardware.com/news/71-graphics/41534-zotac-building-geforce-gtx-460x2-graphics-card.html).

Yeah that would be so nice to have SLI 460 on one card. It's a very good card in SLI anyways. I only purchased the 768mb versions, the 460x2 comes with 2gb.
yeah 6 cores make a difference. both are still great. looking forward to the next gen 6 and 8 cores from intel
6 cores makes a difference. It'll be a while before I upgrade to the next gen as this rig will keep me happy for years.

Unless they've bought map data from Navateq or TeleAtlas, I strongly doubt Apple has enough time to map the entire world.
They bought poly9, which is a mapping firm. They will be using their mapping data. However this statement is clearly about network traffic and nothing else.

No one knows yet. My guess is that they will not work w/FCP X, but only time will tell.

Thanks Lethal, I cannot wait to get FCP X! And I cannot believe that price level, truly amazing!

well, if i got asked like that.. i will ask if they have any proof or not, and you can show them what are you doing that time, cuz that's strange.. schools' in my country usually forbid cellphone, but they could never forbid laptops, why? everytime we use their computer, it's so damn slow.. well, i think it's better to get suspended for like 1 day than giving away your mac, and risking your $1000++

Probably should have checked to see if it was ok to bring a laptop to school in the first place. Most have pretty strict rules in this area.

If Apple thought this product was actually a big leap, they wouldn't have to announce it in front of a group of fans. I would have like to see them demo the software at the editors guild or have some editors who have used it.
Im sure it will be a great consumer product, but so far there is nothing to say that it is revolutionary or that it's even a good choice for content creation.

I'll be there. I bought a user conference pass, so I can see the keynote (whether I'll actually be able to get in is another question).

The only official word is "late this year to early next year." We'll know more in a few days.
officially? Before Vista. :D
Why is no-one here talking about the WDC banner?
(a) you mean WWDC ;)
(b) there's another thread about it. ;)

I forgot where I found it, it's been sitting in my Wallpapers folder for a while.
I can upload the original if anyone wants it. :)
EDIT: I just realized the forum software now compresses images... that sucks.

You all laughed. What now!? :p :p

So you're saying Apple has done something non-dastardly for a change? Wow.
Let's hope they even lifted the "No 64-bit Windows in bootcamp" limitation they heinously manufactured in certain non-pro MacBooks, like my Late '08 2.4 Unibody that runs 64bit Mac OS X and Ubuntu without a problem.
(One product cycle later they add "Pro" and a FW port to what is essentially the same machine and MAGICALLY bootcamp will install 64bit drivers for Win7.)
