Hey guys. I really hope someone can help me or point me in the right direction. I recently purchased an m-audio interface from Best Buy for my home studio. It's been working great until the other day when I began recording and it would not pick up a signal for my mic. I have another mic that connects directly to the computer via usb. So i tried that mic and got the same results....nothing being recorded. If anyone knows whats going on I would greatly appreciate it because I honestly don't even know the source of the problem.

Hi,
playing with a imac g4 (OS 9.2, yeah, it's a long story) to try to get some anolog stuff on CD. there's a way to switch the speaker out to line in. how do i find it?
I'm a total newbie to macs so I need all the gory details like what to open, etc.
also, Macs use a special sized speaker plug? I'm running desk top speakers now through the headphone jack.

Probably need to use sudo texteditor to open the file.
For web testing only, you are better off with MAMP.

Hello everyone
First of all I want to let everyone know that I'm not very familiar with OS X so please bare with me.
I just got a Powerbook G4 15 1GHZ :D , this is my first apple notebook, last year I got the iMac as soon as they came out, and I have been using it for home use (office, internet browsing, cd burning, etc)
At home I have DSL connection shared through a Windows XP and a Wireless network.
I was able to set up the airport network and everything worked ok from home, file sharing, computer browsing, internet browsing.
I took the computer to work where I am going to use the built ethernet, I gave the computer a fixed ip address, configured the DNS, the router but here is where my problems start, with the configuration I set up (basically the same as my home configuration) I am able to browse the network (windows domain computers), I am able to use MSN messenger (so I know I have internet access), I can ping any web addres (example, if I ping www.fark.com , I get the name resolved and get response from the server) but I cannot get the pages to load in safari, or internet explorer.
Anyone out there have an idea?
Thanks

What projects are you trying to use with CUDA?
I know Collatz fails. I talked with the project admin about it. He doesn't even own a Mac, so I've no clue why there even IS a Mac CUDA app there.
SETI doesn't work, nor does Einstein. Both need more than 450MB of VRAM, which many CUDA-enabled Mac cards simply don't have.
PrimeGrid's PPS and GCW sieve apps work fine on my GT 330M in the MacBook Pro. Running 10.6.6 and the latest BOINC version (6.10.58 - not the beta - this is important!)
As for where the problem lies...I dunno. I'd need a bit more information (ie what project/subprojects you're trying to run) and what kind of card you have.
Also...have you installed the full CUDA toolkit? To run a CUDA app you're gonna need libcudart.dylib and libcudart.dylib_200102 (or something - its signature) in the same folder.

I've owned a few iPod's through the course of years, and have to say I loved the 5th gen iPod most, but gave it to my brother for a gift. I'd like to get a new classic, but bleh. The UI isn't my favorite, is there a way to get the old UI where it covered the whole screen instead of having split screen? thanks.

I've got a Macbook 6,1 (late 2009 if I remember correctly) and the rubber bottom has been warping. At first it was just by the track pad, the bottom was a little bit extended but now it won't even fit on the laptop any more. Since the problem started I bought an M-cover to put over it but now that no longer fits on the bottom plate. What's going on here and what can I do? My warranty just expired this month and I hear that apple doesn't deal with cosmetic issues but I don't really want to carry my Macbook around without the bottom of it.
Any help guys? Thanks.

There are a couple of options for you. Either install OS X to the new blank drive. When the install is complete and the computer boots, you will be presented with the option to migrate data from another source (computer, TimeMachine, etc...).
http://i.imgur.com/YH4rn.png
The other option is to use Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable replica of your system drive.
Here is an article outlining the steps for migrating to a new system using TimeMachine:

Search eBay for "LaserWriter" and pick up an old Apple LaserWriter. The toner will last you longer than ink, and they are very dependable. Also, drivers will not be trouble since they install with the Mac OS. Toner cartridges are readily accessible on eBay for LaserWriters.

Had the Pinlo Bladedge and I'd say the front and back screen protectors were top notch..
No bubbles and clarity was excellent.. In fact, I reckon its cut fits the home button and earpiece notch more precisely than PS crystal..

iMovie '11 can deal with AVCHD files, but it converts them to the AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) format for editing. I've found that iMovie's conversion significantly softens the image, so I use VoltaicHD to convert AVCHD to AIC; iMovie then can edit the resulting AIC file natively.
If FCPX natively supports AVCHD, so much the better.

I can not edit song info using my iTunes. When I do File->Get Info and then go to the info Tab all the fields appear to be read-only. I can not edit. Can anybody tell me how to do it?
Thanks

I would like to be able to offer free downloads of an iPhone app to a select group of users (for instance, people who have stayed at a particular hotel), but charge the general public for the app.
Apple limits you to 50 promotional codes per version of an app. The target audience I have in mind is quite a bit larger.
Can anyone think of a work-around?

Check ebay.... i'd imagine you'd get at least 1800 for it
i'd sell it now though, cause by next week it may not be worth as much when the new powerbooks come out (if they come out next week)

Just wanted to update this thread on my experience at the Apple Store. We plugged in the monitor and immediately the red line appeared. I had previously found 4 dead pixels so figured the LCD was the culprit.
The 'genius' agreed and pulled up my monitors serial number. 34 days OUT of warranty. *****......
They guy reminds me I did not buy AppleCare and tells me it will be a slap on the wrist and they will order a new LCD and replace it, AT NO COST. $661 repair.
I LOVE APPLE!!!!
So Ive decided to keep it once I get it back and use it as a second display on my 27" iMac. Going big, not going home.
Cheers!

The methods mentioned are regarding DVDs, as you said. How can I apply it on a USB stick? What I need to do is a disc image and then have it on my USB stick?

Greetings! I live in a blended family (I use mac :apple:, roommate uses pc  - haven't converted her yet). She and I would like to live in harmony and use a shared desktop workstation.
I've hooked all external components (mouse, keyboard, printer) via USB to a Lenovo K33415 Port Replicator. NEC AccuSync LCD also connected to Port Replicator via VGA.
When I plug her PC in, it recognizes all components immediately. My MacBook recognizes all components except the monitor.
Do I have to use a Mini DisplayPort to connect the monitor to the Mac? Or can I make it work as is with the USB?
Thank you sooooo much!!!! :o
Does the port replicator work with displaylink software? that's pretty much the standard for USB video: http://www.displaylink.com/ The os x driver is here: http://www.displaylink.com/support/mac_downloads.php
Note usb video is really slow to respond vs the displayport or dvi or vga because of the limited bandwidth and you will need the built-in screen on that macbook to install the driver but you should be able to watch youtube videos. Also, forget games, it does NO 3d.

They sold out of 3G models quickly, both AT&T & Verizon. :(
I waited in line for about 50 min - got there very late, at 4:50p - there's that work thing, getting in the way again! ;)
Did not get the 3G models I wanted, but I think the people around me in line were still going to be able to get 16GB WiFi models which they still had in stock when I left the line a while ago.

Well, I want to buy a warranty for my MacBook Air and I've seen a lot of people say good things about AppleCare and Squaretrade warranties, but I don't know which is the better buy. Squaretrade's warranty covers accidental damage which is huge while AppleCare does not. AppleCare on the other hand extends my current warranty to 3 years and gives me 3 years of phone support. Squaretrade is $159 for a 1 year warranty, and $239 for 2 years. Apple is $249 for 3 years and no accidental damage.
Which would you say is the better buy? I dont know anything really about Squaretrade, but it seems like accidental damage being covered would come with a catch.
Personal stories from anyone that has used Squaretrade in the past would be very helpful.

My concern is that I will lose all the things I downloaded on Cydia already if I update. Any thoughts?
You can use aptbackup or pkgbackup to backup(as in which cydia apps you had) and restore the apps you had.
