I have been battling in my mind as to which Mac to get. Portability would be nice (aka powerbook), but it comes at a hefty cost. My major in college is Media Arts and Design and I will be doing a lot of digital video stuff. They recommend you to have a mac and Final Cut Pro. Would an iMac G5 be good for this? How are the innards different than the powerbook or powermac?
Please only post if you know what you are saying...ie no "well I don't see why the iMac wouldn't be fine for you" blah blah.. Thanks in advance :)
First off you get a G5. The Apple trainers often use g4 17" PBs, but they are not as nice as using a g5. Secondary, you can get more screen real estate. I'll let somebody comment about backside cache's etc, but if you are really going to get into editing, I really would max the memory, get at least one secondary drive, and then get the best computer I could afford. I have used (an own) FCP on a 12" 1ghz PB, and it's doable, but it's so slow and small when compared to a G5 iMac, or tower with twin LCD's.
Here's the question, if you had a desktop computer, would a cheap 300$ G3 iBook meet the marjority of you portable computer needs for a few years? If so, then I would go for the iMac and get an elchepo iBook for takeing notes and writing papers. If not, then get the best PB you can. Also, don't froget you will need at least one external firewire drive, Apple's creative suite, memory, and (if your portable) AppleCare, a spare battery, and a case.

try using isopropyl on a cotton bud whilst the phone is off obviously not only does it clean very well it evaporates very quickly therefore not causing water damage to you speaker, just be very cautious when doing so. if not apple store :)

I am running bootcamp with windows xp sp3. As far as I know, it pulls together all the correct drivers you would need(even though some things are still a bit wonky(audio/recording)).
Here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1139689) is talk about my problems with it. Not sure if you can actually un-install bootcamp easily after you install it. I know it's possible, but I would not know how to do it.

If you want to put that unspecified HDD into the MB, then no, as the HDD in that desktop PC from Acer is mist likely a 3.5" S-ATA HDD and MBs and MBPs and many other notebooks use 2.5" S-ATA HDDs.
Yeah i looked everywhere and could't find the size. Im just about to open it up to see.

I would have thought Power Macs could go much hotter than 60C. Maybe run the Hardware Test CD that it came from to check if it picks up anything quirky. :)
Have you got anything plugged in that could be doing this? Do you have a certain app running each time this happens?

I should be getting my new iBook this Monday. I have been reading through these forums about things I should get. I have found some great advice, and some confusion on some things.
Yesterday I order a Screensavrz (http://www.radtech.us) from Radtech. I plan to get some iKlear when I pickup my iBook, along with a sleeve.
One problem I have been reading about is the problem with palm "marks" on the palm rests of iBooks. I was looking at Wrist Rugs (http://www.powersupportusa.com/products/rr.php?category=pb) but they are like $30 shipped. I have about people using PDA protectors. What is the best option?
And is there anything else that is recommended to get? Thanks for your help.

you need to resubmit it or have it in the original post for it to be eligible.

ds carts can only do WEP wireless security. if your router is set to anything other than WEP your game will not connect. the dsi hardware itself can connect to other security protocols. thats how you are able to use the browser.

Stardom's unit is quite solid and pretty, but you should be aware, that its fan is definitely loud. The sound can be heard from meters away in an otherwise silent environment. That fan also has low radius, and so its pitch is quite high, which can be annoying.

well...I accept multiple forms of payment ;)
But yes its such an incredible machine. It can do so much...
In many cases I prefer it over G5 tower.
It's cheaper to upgrade!...with like 80 bucks you can max it out at 2 gigs of ram!

MyWi has always been one of my favorite apps to use on the go with my Mac and iPad(WiFi). But today it stopped working on my Mac, despite doing nothing to any settings. It says that the connection has a self assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to internet. This odd thing is that it works on my iPad still.
I really need this issue fixed ASAP so that I can use my Mac at school to do my assignments.
Thanks in advanced. :D
Is that thru USB or Wifi?
Why not try another way of connecting your Mac? You have 3 options, Wifi, Bluetooth and USB.

I'm thinking of getting into iOS development. I need something different to do on the side and I'm just gathering facts at this point. I do have a pretty good C++ background from college, so it sounds like I'd just have to look into Objective C, etc. Again, I'm just looking at this as something to play around with as a side job. I'm just curious to hear from you all if it's worth my time.
Is there any money to be made as just an individual developer?
What type of revenue are you guys seeing from iAds?
How did you get started?
I've always wanted to use my programming background, and I love my Apple devices, so it seems like a way to bring all of that together.
Just looking for some direction. Thanks in advance.

Ok. My time capsule is my wireless network so I selected created. However, you think I should have selected join. I will try it and see what happens.

If you ever plan to upgrade your iMac to a newer model, you will most likely get one with TB already built in, thus you can then use the TB port.
But as you have FW800 as fastest port (or Gigabit Ethernet) on your current iMac, get an external HDD with Firewire.
TB HDDs aren't out yet, only announced.

I have one. Two hard drives failed within the first year but were replaced by Apple for free and since then no problems. Other than the fact that it's a bit outdated (I want the multitouch trackpad, bigger HDD, more ram, still running leopard, etc) it's still going strong.
