Hi Guys,
A mac mini (2 months old) connected to a GOOD UPS is now rebooting on it's own 3-4 times a day.
There are log files generated for these events but are too detailed for my understanding.
Is there a simple event viewer (like MS eventvwr.msc) that can show me failed services, failed operations, etc., so I can try and track down what the heck is going on?
Any help would be appreciated.

I am just trying to wrap my head around why if I would have 2x SSD's (one with Win7, the other OSX) connected to the Areca controller in pass through mode (not raid) would I not be able to select the drive to boot from upon startup or in the worst case from within OSX through the startup disk utility?
OK.
Well, first off, you cannot have both OS's on the RAID card. OS X would boot from the card, but Windows will not. This is why the Windows disk must be attached to the ICH (it's been tried unsuccessfully with multiple cards from different brands).
But with this configuration, you will be able to use the Boot Loader built into the MP's firmware to select which OS you want to boot (still have to set the OS X boot disk under System Preferences). Windows is done during the installation process (you select the disk location, and that gets set in the Boot Loader).
Take a look at Apple's Boot Camp page (http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/) for further information (How To Guide).
Or say if I have one SSD connected to the backplane SATA2 ports via backplane cable and the other to the Areca controller in pass through mode, what methods will be available to me for switching between the operating system I wish to boot from ? e.g. Can I call up a boot menu holding the option key during startup and select to boot from the SSD with Windows 7 or must I first log into OSX, open startup disk utility and select the SSD with Win 7 as the drive to startup from next time? or is this managed through bootcamp?

Is the battery backup module T113 worth getting for
the Areca 1880 to protect against power failure or is it not that vital
if one has a good UPS? I suppose an UPS does not protect against
internal PC failures, accidental shut downs etc. But the Mac Pro
seems to be a reliable machine.
Ideally, run both. So if the budget allows for it, get it.
BTW, make sure the UPS uses a pure sine wave inverter, not a stepped unit (i.e. SmartUPS series from APC). There are another type beginning to ship (PWM based steps = more of them, so it better approximates a sine wave). Wasn't there a rumor going around a couple months back about M$ making VPC free? That would make sense now if they're going to discontinue it, and let us PPC users have it for free. Who wants to pay for a product that won't receive any updates?
VPC is free for Windows. Not the Mac version. They can wring a little bit of life out of the PPC version yet, I'm sure. There's no (serious) competition on PPC.

Looks good! Only thing I'm not fond of are the bigger avatars (although I will be making mine bigger to fit in), the huge text capabilities (I think this will be abused) and the different colored smilies. But that's just IMHO! ;) The rest of it looks great. Good job!

That doesn't mean it doesn't work, those people could have been using MyWi or TetherMe before switching to PdaNet. Granted, I don't think the method PdaNet uses helps at all.
They said they were using the new pdanet stealth mode that's all.
Not sure if they used MyWi or tetherme also but doesn't seem like it matters.
Try it out and let us know if you want.

For some reason, when the hard drives in Powermac G5s die, it causes weird things to happen to the rest of the machine.
Rule of thumb for every old or used mac
ALWAYS PUT IN A BRAND NEW HARD DRIVE.
You won't be sorry. But especially in Powermac G5s.

I have an ultimate 11 inch machine. 4 gigs, 1.6 processor. The 4 gigs is perfect, but
1) I would like the processor to be a little bit faster. Some apps that I run, are just a "bit" laggy.
2) I would also like 256 gig SSD. I actually think I need about 200 gig.
3) I would also like a bit more physical screen size.
It's almost perfect.
If by "a bit more physical screen size" you meant a bigger display, you have just described the 13" MBA, 1.86GHz with 256GB SSD and 4GB of RAM, $1699 ($1799 with a 2.13GHz processor).
