Anyone going to be in Milton Keynes at 8am to pick up a new iPhone?
Well, the store opens at 8am. If anyone's interested, i'd imagine anyone with mobile access to macrumors could update this thread. I'll likely be down early to have a look, then go for a walk/get breakfast, then get back when they're a few more people around.
Harder to gauge really - Are there going to be shops open prior to the UK we could use as indicators of demand and stock at Apple stores? (3G iPhone had an amazing midnight opening in Europe - pity the UK didn't have the DJs and music going on to make it a midnight gig atmosphere last year).

So, I just got home from the St. Louis Apple Store with my brand-new 15" powerbook. Not sure if I count as a switcher or not, been using Macs for years at work but never have owned one. (Main desktop at home is an Athlon.)
Pretty sweet machine. I was torn between the 12 and 15, but I went with the 15. Looking at the machines in the store the 12 looked kind of cramped, the 15 screen huge in comparison.
Anyway I am one of those who has been waiting all summer to get a revved powerbook and thus have I become a macrumors reader. So all I can say is, aahhhhh.
Also this is my first real experience with osx, at work I am still stuck on 9.
A question: does airport extreme play pretty nicely with non-airport based wifi base stations? Anyone have a recommendation? I'll need something with an ethernet port for my desktop as well. (I'm a total newbie to wifi.)

Hello there,
This probably isn't the best place to ask, but I can't seem to find a better one :s .
I want to develop an application that has a server and a client side.
Now I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for some documentation on how these two should communicate. (for things like file exchange(this will be least problematic), operational progress, queue's, 'n stuff)
Apple Developer forums don't really have the greatest layout and don't seem to have any place for a general question like this.
I'm not asking for anyone to give me a bunch of pre-chewed code, I'd just like a link to some documentation about this subject, or come API's that I'd probably need in this scenario.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful :)
Thanks in advance,
Many Greetz,

Hi everyone,
I have a question. How do you manage many large clips when you edit your videos in FCP?
I have about 80gigs left on my Macbook Pro, but I have about 100gigs of raw footage that needs to be edited. I tried putting them on an external hard drive and importing direct from there, but FCP doesn't even recognize that the hard drive is in there. It is FAT formatted and everything.
I tried using FCP Media Manager but I don't know if I'm doing it right. Original raw footage is 30 minutes and 30gigs large. I took a 15 second snippet and it was an estimated 4gigs. The math just doesn't add up here.
Is there a better way to manage my situation?
Many thanks.

You have to understand the concept of OO programming.
To use that "SecondController" as the guy defined above me, (could be any class (tableview/uiviewController subclasses etc), u have to import this at the top, so u can use it to push it onto the navigation stack :)
Don't forget to give ur first screen a title, otherwise the back button won't display on the second screen.
IF any more questions, go ahead :)

I'd imagine the logo on Apple TV to be some kind of Vector, or some amalgamation that doesn't have the shading effects due to it needing to be displayed on different colours of background.
Thats my *guess*. I don't think its a whole new logo.

Hi, I've installed the Lion Developers Preview, all legit. It's working great and everything. But what happens when the grand master comes out? Can I install it over my existing Lion partition or do I have to delete both my Snow Leopard partition and my Lion preview one and do a clean install?
Cheers :) x

If the row of icons is too close to the left edge of the screen, it will not let you place icons there, to avoid filenames running off screen. Try going into View Options and setting the grid to be a bit smaller, it will fit more icons on screen and thus move the row away from the edge.

thanks for tips, both seem bit expensive ...
Then Google "rsync." You can run it free from terminal. Once you get the hang of its commands, you can wrap it in an AppleScript.

I don't think iOS does share the same Foundation framework as Mac OS X. iOS seems to lack NSConnection and NSDistantObject. It does have NSPort, but only NSMachPort, not NSSocketPort.

That usually means that your connection to the net is bad.
Is it working for other things? It should have come up with an error.

So I've searched and have failed to find a simple solution here.
I've tried the redsnow method with 4.2.6 but Cydia opens up then crashes instantly. I've tried 5 times and had to restore every time.
Is there another method on the way or present already?!?! Thanks!

You could try verifying the disk using disk utility to check for errors.

I haven't got any spare keys to map to it, though - I've assigned them to other things, and most of its features clash with Quicksilver.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I'm doing some hackery on a bunch of mac minis, namely looking to create an exterior power button. (the mini will be inside a case and we need to be able to turn it on from the outside)
A plunger button to line up with the button on the outside of the mac mini case would just be creating another failure point, so I cracked one open and the power switch is using one of the small black two pin plugs that are used in a handful of other place on the board.
So the current idea is to run a wire through the vent port to that plug on the logic board, which means I can do all of what I need to without necessarily making it apparent that I poked around heavily inside the mini.
Problem is that I need that little black plug to make this work and mac mini parts seem to be a no-show in all of my searching. I can get any miniscule piece of anything for an iphone, but it seems the most I can get for a 2010 mini is the cooling fan and the usual upgrade memory type components.
TL;DR: Anyone know where I can buy the little two-pin black plugs inside of a 2010 mini that connect the speaker or power button / or a cheap component that I could hack it off of?
It looks like the hard drive thermal sensor and the speaker are the only two components in this generation that use that plug.

That link is about the Core Duo, not the Core 2 Duo. I would suspect that come release, it will no longer be possible.
You are right. However, it is also a "known issue". So, lets hope Apple make Lion a CoreDuo compatible OS.

Hi all, Just recently received my NX5E and I am on the look out for a decent pair of headphones to monitor sound out and about on location. Looking for a set that are a good all round purchase, being able to cope with mainly filming outside in potentially noisey environments.
Price isn't a huge factor however if I can get a really good set for less than 150 it would be ideal.
Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Nick

I came across a deal on a used Apple 8800GT, that came from a 2008 Mac Pro. The seller told me that to the best of his knowledge, this card is not useable by Windows. Is this true? I was looking at this card as an alternative to my GT120, to be used strictly for CUDA work.

Hi folks,
This is confusing me. I've done this before without issue, but I transferred 19 MiniDV tapes onto Mac using iMovie into DV format (while I edited another project on my other mac in FCP).
My client could only play some of the files on his Windows machine (win7) using Quicktime. Then he may have deleted Quicktime and now Windows Movie Maker has taken over and changed the default file opening so he can't open the others.
Yes, I do have a copy of the files on my computer.
I saw this suggestion from Apple's board, but I don't seem to have this option of dv-avi in Quicktime (7) Pro?
" Export "Movie to AVI" and use the DV Stream format.
This makes a .dv file inside and AVI container which will work with Movie Maker. "
Should I try exporting with QuickTime Pro as AVIs? Would that work on a PC?
Other clients have used the DV files so I'm a little confused why this client can't ?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Cheers,

try using isopropyl on a cotton bud whilst the phone is off obviously not only does it clean very well it evaporates very quickly therefore not causing water damage to you speaker, just be very cautious when doing so. if not apple store :)
