I wouldn't give you good odds for WWDC, but you should have your update within less than a month from it.
Merom isn't out at the time of WWDC- it won't be until later in August. It is possible they may let apple take pre-orders if steve wants to really make it a massive attack at WWDC on all parts of the line charging ahead into the next generation, but you never know with him.
Of course the way things are going, for all we know there may really be PB G5s at WWDC, who knows nowadays :rolleyes:Unless Apple gets some special early treatment from Intel, I agree with preorders.

Because I actually care about my grandparents. They have done something genuine for me, they have cared for me, they have loved me, etc. Some random idiot woman in a minivan is just another person, why should I care about her? Because she is a human? I think not. I have no personal connection to that woman, I cannot feasibly or easily use her to advance myself, so why should I care what happens to her today, tomorrow, or 20 years from now? Logically, I shouldn't; emotionally and morally I should because she is another person, I think that is nonsensical.

The only way that would happen would be for the phone to be GIVEN away at a price so LOW that nobody would refuse it. And it would have to include a data plan that costs practically nothing. And it would have to be contract free.

I think the clintob poster who is talking about Africa's problem just isn't explaining himself very well. U2 African AIDS charity is good, but it won't come near to solving the problems of Africa and it isn't just because it won't produce enough money, but it will mainly be because it wont be able to change Africa's culture.
Africa is the most backwards continent in the world.. it has for the most part retained its history and culture.. stubbornly refusing to evolve their history and culture to follow the rest of the world into the 20th and 21st century. Now Africa is paying the price with massive poverty, civil wars and the AIDS epidemic. Its Africa's culture that is causing the AIDS epidemic.. to stop the spread of AIDS in Africa you must destroy Africa's culture.. clintob is saying that those who follow Africa's culture and refuse to change will die and should die because they refused to evolve.
For instance I read an TIME article where a popular 'cure' in a African country for AIDS was for the man to have sex with a VIRGIN!! Even though certified doctor's were running around all the villages in this country saying that it wasn't a cure that they would only spread the disease. Nobody listened to the doctors.. Why you may ask.. because the shamans said that the doctors were quacks and that the cure was to sleep with a virgin. Apple has stated before, in one of their Keynote videos (possibly the one about the Unibody MBP), that they send their designers to Taiwan, and China, where the factories are actually located, to the designing, so they have a complete feel for the entire life of the product. So they have an idea of what the manufacturing facilities will look like, and have quick/easy access to the raw materials, and can easily test the manufacturing capabilities themselves.

This has NOTHING to do with environmentalism, president Bush, or freedom of speech. It has to do with a the organizers of a privately held event kicking out an attendee for violating the terms it had set.

This is one attendee that proved to be troublemaker in the past, who made the mistake of not following the terms to the tiniest detail, thereby giving the organisers an excuse for kicking them out. If lets say NVidia or ATI were showing graphics cards that are of interest to Macintosh users, and they were violating the terms of the organizers in the same way, nothing would happen at all.
That said, I wouldn't have let them in in the first place. It seems that their attack against Apple was mostly caused by Apple not making any actual promises about environmental issues - Greenpeace measured companies mostly by the amount of promises they made, and Apple is more into action.

So what sort of picture and sound quality can we expect from these movie downloads (wireless or otherwise)? Also, as a download, just how big are these files going to be? I wouldn't want to be on the other side of a "your hard disk is now full" prompt 10Mb from the end of a 2Gb download (that's an extreme example - I hope!)

The only free place left in our Fascist dictatorship country where we can't roam the streets after curfew and cellular phones and other internet resources have been shut down. Hail Macrumors for fighting the oppression and risking life and limb so other freedom fighters like "Jobsrules" can dissent against President Bush in the only venue still open after all other forms of protest ceased after the 2000 election...
By the way, I am not sure if you've noticed or not, but their actually still are protests in the United States. It's a basic Right that hasn't been taken away under the Bush administration. We don't have soldiers quartering in homes... we don't yet have to testify against ourselves in a court of law.
I guess I'm at a loss for what rights we have actually lost under the Bush Presidency... Not to mention what on earth it has to do with Greenpeace have trouble agreeing and adhering to rules and standards of conduct.

I would also prefer AMD, but I don't think there will be Llanos low-powered enough for the MBA.
Look at the Zacate E-350. It's 18W, and CPU-wise it's at a dual core Atom level.
OK, it's bulk 40nm, and Llano is 32nm SOI, but the quad mobile Llano I've seen is supposed to be 45W. MBAs are at 10W and 17W.
Llano is still a Stars+ core. Maybe next year with Bulldozer Fusion.
AMD would be producing better CPU's via increased profits if Apple chose them over Intel from the start.

Kentsfield is Intel's next revision of their "Core" processors which was originally scheduled to be released in the 1st Quarter of 2007. According to the article, it is now planned for late 2006 availability.
Kentsfield is a Quad-core chip and essentially combines two Conroe chips. It is expected to be a Conroe "drop-in" and should work with the same motherboards as Conroe. More details about the chip are expected at the fall Intel Developer Forum (http://www.intel.com/idf/) which takes place between September 26-28 in San Francisco.
Apple originally used the Core Duo (Yonah) processor in first Intel Macs released in January of 2006. In the past month, Intel introduced the Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) and Desktop (Conroe) processors as a successor to the Core Duo (Yonah). Last week, Apple incorporated the Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) into the new iMacs (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060906091309.shtml). Apple has not yet utilized the Core 2 Duo Desktop (Conroe) processors for any Macs. I think he was referring to the older versions of Office that had weird MDI interfaces for Word and Excel, so that it only displayed one document at a time, unless you explicitly forced two separate instances of the application to run at the same time.
How is what the older version didn't do relevant?
The point people were trying to make was that Windows 7 is a good operating system, so what does it matter if past versions of Windows didn't have the functionality?
As problems arise, they are addressed. If the problem has been fixed, then give credit where it's due.

I agree that app store is a very generic term, but in order to avoid all the legal troubles and the money and time lost, why not just create your own name?
Microsoft has their own name. I guess they are just trying to protect the descriptive nature of the term. "Microsoft Marketplace, the app store for Windows Phone 7".
Microsoft does not intend to use the trademark.
I don't get why Apple filed for such a descriptive mark anyway. iTunes App Store was what they called it at first, what was wrong with that ? iOS App Store would also save all these legal troubles. Apple App Store another that's perfectly fine.

I have no problem with Greenpeace being at the show as long as they back up their findings with facts and conduct themselves in a civil manner. If Microsoft stepped out of line at the show, I would expect them to be kicked out of the show as well.
