first: in the browse by artist/song/genre listings, provide an alphabetical jump-list so people don't have to scroll through the entire catalog.
right now it's not a problem to scroll through the entire database -- it's at a size where this can still be done. but once you hit critical mass, i'm imagining a scenario where someone wants to look at the content on a scope somewhere between a full-catalog browse and a specific search. accessing what's in the database might be an easier task if the information is available at several different granularities.
second: (and this may be what user jbembe recently suggested; i'm not sure if i followed that thread correctly) provide a weighted song-recommendation function. pick a song, or a group of songs, from your playlist. other people's playlists are scanned, and playlists that contain your selection(s) are retrieved, providing a pool of songs that have been recommended by people who share some portion of your musical interests.
these select playlists are then examined, and if a song exists on (just for instance here) 50% or more of these playlists then it's assumed that the song has some merit and isn't just one person's fancy. lastly, if the song doesn't already exist in your own playlist, it's recommended to you.

Hi, I have my Apple mouse that came with my G5 iMac (bought in Aug/Sept. 05') and have no need for it. I used it about a week until my wireless mouse arrived and now I wish to sell it. It's in great shape and very white ;)

Yesterday was my official 2-year anniversary for folding.
314,000 points isn't too bad considering the limited number and limited power of my machines...at least by modern standards. My current production is low, and my rank has been dropping, but I am still pretty happy with the sheer amount of work I've contributed.
Not tooting my own horn, just wanted to mark the occasion. Congrats to all of you who are passing me...keep it up!
Super! :D
I was a member with SETI one and ended up over 12,000 wu's. Now that SETI one is over, I've been wondering what to do with my spare CPU time.
Appreciate your post to get me thinking about Folding.

Today I connected my iPhone 4 to my Bose speaker that has a specific connection for iPhone, and to my surprise I started getting pop ups to dismiss saying that the device is not compatible. I continued trying until it started to play the music. This was not happening with my iPhone 3gs or recent iPod Touch. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I thought the iPhone 4 was updated and more compatible to issues like these.

It's a borderline call. Adding a forum is always a compromise between differentiating different types of threads or contributing to "forum bloat", the tendency for the number of forums to continually increase. The iPad forum gets about 22% more activity than the iPod touch forum, and the iPhone forum overshadows them both (the percentages could changer over time). At some point the number of iPod touch help threads might be worth yet another forum. Right now there isn't a huge volume of iPod touch threads. More than a week's active threads are typically on the first or second forum page, not buried and pushed out of sight as a help thread in the main iPhone forum might soon be.
Ok. Thanks. I understand.
Last night when I looked at the front page there were about a hundred more viewers on the Touch then the iPad. :)

I'm not totally surprised. all companies throw a large net out hoping to ensnare them. The level of cut back is a bit surprised given the posturing that oracle had made before hand.
Still if google is found guilty of using Oracle's technology they're in deep kimchi

So the nasty ical is still there? I hope that goes away; it's horrible looking on the desktop. With limited real estate on the screen, all that extra stuff just takes up space...
Still there.. but looking slightly different.

New iMac can be used as a target display if another device supports Thunderbolt. It's been confirmed by Apple.

I recommend that adapter (it's from IDE&ATA[and some others] to USB 2.0). It's good for quick transfers of data from bare hard drives and you can always use it again in the future. Quite a useful gadget to have lying around.

Do you park them in the same driveway?
Haha well the real important issue is do they switch which space they are parked in in the driveway... the overlap could cause an erroneous failure transfer in the braking application!!!:D

Yeah, I actually don't use playlists at all - I'm just asking from an 'organizing' standpoint. I really don't see any point in having both Purchased and Music. But, it really doesn't matter since the iPod does what I want it to.
But, to be honest, this iPod deserves a 5/5. It completely replaces my car CD player as well. I have a good auxiliary cable I use to listen to the music - it seems like the quality is just as good as putting iTunes music on a CD-R.

Greetings everyone,
I'm pretty newbie for the Mac world, so be patient please.
I have the chance to have a look at an Imac G3 400Mhz (Tangerine) 384Mb (64Mb originally).
Had to swap the hard disk because the 15Gb Quantum inside was broken.
So, reinstalled OS 9.2.2 on the new disk. Everything went fine.
Sorry for the preamble but the problem is:
I have a firewire inclosure like this: http://www.byteccusa.com/product/enclosure/ME-320.htm (model is: ME-320F - Oxford 911 chip) but can't have it recognized by the system.
The "System Profiler" shows the firewire bus (2.8.6) with (obviously) nothing attached to it.
I've tried dvd-rom burner, dvd-rom reader, hard disk but with no luck.
The device is not detected in startup, too. (I'd like to boot with that).
I've upgraded the iMac to the latest firmware but with same results.
Another strange thing: on the label on the back of the iMac I read: 400Mhz/512K L2/64MB/10GB/DVD/56. So I think that "DVD" should state for DVD-Rom reader, right? But actually there's only a CD-ROM reader in this iMac... How is it possible?
I hope you could help me.
Thank you very much.
Bye,
Andrea

There are a number of us who are having trouble accessing .mac mail since last night (18+ hours). I can access ALL .mac services, except for mail (webmail seems to be unavailble as well).
.Mac system status shows the following: ".Mac email is currently unavailable for a small number of .Mac customers. iDisk and web-based services (like HomePage, Backup and iCards) are unaffected."

I just purchased a refurbished 2010 mac mini server and got it up and running only to find that I cant bring my files over from the time machine backup that I had for my old macbook pro. It looks like SLS does not support this. Is there anything I can do to get my music, photos etc from the time machine backup on my usb drive to the server?
I originally wanted to just install SL client instead of server but could not get that to work. When I booted from the SL retail 10.6.3 disk that I bought, the apple would change to a "no entry" logo and do nothing.
I figure if I can at least get my files from time machine onto the mini, I can live with it for now. I would assume that when lion comes out, it will allow me to install it and access my time machine backups. That's a lot to assume!
Any help will be greatly appreciated! :D
