I've been running my iPhone 3G on 4.0 for awhile now and want to upgrade to the most recent/last available software for this phone, 4.21. I am unlocked and want to make sure I keep my unlock as I'm no longer on the official carrier (even though I finished that contract and hate that there is no official unlock). I keep reading about basebands and iPad flashes and am thoroughly confused. Can I just download the latest redsn0w or pwnage tool and re-jailbrake the phone then download ultrasn0w again? My baseband is 5.13.04.
Thanks, much appreciated.
Sidenote: I've read I can enable Gamecenter and HDR even though they are not supported on my model, is there any point to HDR as the camera sucks so much on the 3G?
Thanks, much appreciated.

Here's the deal, I was having some kernal panics, 4 over the weekend (which I think might be from iTunes 4.7.1. seeing as how I don't have KPs if iTunes isn't running and I just upgraded to 4.7.1), and I tried some fixes and now my Mac won't boot, but just freezes on the grey boot up screen. BUT if I hold down "option" while starting up I can select my OS X start up disk and boot-up just fine. So, it seems, open firmware can't find my OS X boot disk automatically, but I can select it manually and all is good.
The place I think I screwed up is when I booted into single-user mode to try and repair permissions from there I misspelled one of the commands (the repair permissions command) and couldn't get back to the command prompt. I finally did a hard reboot and that's when it just froze on the grey start-up screen.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
thanks,
Lethal

i guess thats your problem ---->rEFIt which needs to be installed when using linux via bootcamp and it alters the EFI and the MBR , so by just removing the linux partition you caused a bit of a chaos
removing rEFIt might sort your problem now if you are lucky ..but i doubt that
http://refit.sourceforge.net/doc/c1s3_remove.html
if unlucky a clean install of OSX and windows7 might be your only option and then just use your backups ,timemachine and whatever you used to backup windows..
Well, thats sounds bad, but i can boot MBp into mac, n it runs fine, its jst windows is not booting up.
So, is there no way i can get my windows back?

I have a Drobo v2 and like it. It houses all my iTunes music and other media.
I can read about 2 GB/min off of it (34 MB/sec), which for me is plenty fast. I usually download from iTunes directly to the Drobo, so write speeds aren't as important, b/c the bottleneck is my ISP, not the Drobo interface.
I had Synology CS407 before, and while it was nice, it wasn't HFS+, and was limiting some things I wanted to do. Since I had a Mac Mini already connected to the home theatre, I wanted a DAS (Direct Attached Storage) instead of a NAS again, and this way I can use Slink or MobileMe to jump back quite easily to get anything I might want.

So - are we really surprised? Is Adobe just "lazy" or did they cut their QA department? Maybe Safari does not have a significant enough market share to warrant QA testing?
The world may never know.

I need some app advice if possible. I've been researching this for a couple days now, and I'm having trouble finding just the right app for my needs. This is what I'm looking for...
I need a simple inventory tracker, where I can enter various items like CD's, T-Shirts (in different sizes) etc, the quantity in stock, and an easy way to subtract from the quantity when it's sold. Other features I'd like would be to add photos of the items. The bigger feature I need is the ability for multiple users to have this on their iphones, and each phone is updated when someone makes a change, linking them together without synching. Something like push from a server or cloud which holds the data.
I may be asking for too much here. haha

Hey guys!
So, I'm considering selling my MacBook, and I'd like a valuation, if possible.
I bought this machine 2.5 years ago from two eBay auctions The first was for a broken MacBook A1181, the second was for a MacBook 4,1 motherboard w/ a Core 2 Duo clocked at 2.4Ghz. Interesting to note that the guts of my White MacBook are from a Black MacBook :)
(Relevant) hardware specs:
CPU: Core 2 Duo @ 2.4Ghz/T8300 Bus Speed: 800Mhz
RAM: 4Gb/667Mhz
Disk: 500Gb at 5400rpm
The battery also provides at most 3 hours of power (still beating most other laptops :P) when doing casual browsing over WiFi.
All in all, it's a pretty beefy machine, and can even power external monitors up to 1620 x 1080.
It has some cosmetic damage, but I'd hope most people would be willing to look beyond that. Gallery here: http://imgur.com/a/bkBd7#xFLrp
Would someone please help value my MacBook? I've spent at least $800, and think it could be worth around $500 to $600.
Thanks!

Didn't 02 Start selling them for 169? If that's the case, I wouldn't say much more than 169 :p
I advise you to put a one day auction in on eBay, as Hustle quite rightly pointed out, the value on Monday will drop very quickly.

I reckon I'll be waiting in line at West Town mall Friday like a shmuck for the iPad 2. Anyone have any experience with Apple product launches in Knoxville prior to this? What sort of line should I expect?
I plan on checking in around noon to see what is going on. I'll either get in line then or come back around 3pm depending on the crowd. I'm not looking forward to waiting in line, but I can't resist the urge to have one of these things in my grubby little hands Friday night.
If anyone else is planning to go, it would be great to update this thread with the status of the event. I will once I get there.

The black screen issue seems pretty prevalent on these G4 ibooks. I have two old G3s and they still work great.
Here's my problem on the G4:
Black screen, no trace or flicker of anything.
Have reset both PRAM and PMU. Still black.
I removed extra RAM and the Airport Extreme card. No change.
Computer works in target mode. I can read and write to the drive from another computer via Firewire.
No image on an external monitor so it doesn't appear to be an inverter or backlight problem. I suspect the video subsystem on the motherboard but I hope that's not it and I don't know the wiring for these, so I can't judge.
Squeezing the area left of the keypad where some are known to have a badly seated chip made no difference, even when I put varying amounts of pressure on it.
Any ideas? It's such a great little machine. I wish it had the same reliability and longevity as my G3s. I'd like to get it working.

hey so I was thinking that since i have a 500gb external hard drive and would like to use it as a backup for my internal 160gb hard drive and that I should use time machine. well due to that my machine only has a 160gb internal HD I don't want to dedicate the entire 500gb's to time machine. so I was thinking of partitioning 165gb's for time machine and the rest in another partition to just use for whatever. now my problem is how would I go about doing this? and so that time machine always backs up to the 165gb partition.
also that I could access both partitions easily. but first is this even possible? is it not recommended? and not a good idea?
also if possible could I make two 165gb partitions and one with the remaining 170gb's and use both 165gb partitions as time machine back ups? that way I could back up two computers to one drive on separate partitions and also have 170 for whatever I need it for?

Try again...its confirmed (via another thread) that Apple was having issues with their activation servers. I just tried about 10 mins ago and was able to activate my 3GS...

You don't even need to call. You can register when you install or start OS X for the first time.
You mean re-register which results in owervriting my old registration on Apple's servers?
That's probably what happened if it works like that cause I viped the drive before I sold it.
Thank's for all the previous answers :)

Remember you're talking about the low end of the Mac graphics lineup. Most of the better games require a lot of power that low end video solutions don't have. I bought a G4 tower that came with a Rage 128 Pro 16mb graphics card that couldn't play games for crap. That was the low end back when this machine was new. I have a Radeon 9700 in there now and games run a lot better. Unfortunately, the mini can't be upgraded, so you're stuck with what you have. Be sure you read the system requirements on any game before you buy it in the future as it may not run adequately, if at all, on your machine. If gaming is your goal, you need a machine with a better graphics card in the future. My brother has a 24" iMac with the 7300GT graphics card and that's not even high end for games and graphics work although it does work well enough.

Thanks - ok what about using something like mail or entourage? Can those apps run at the same time as Outlook? And can I use them to access my 2003 mail (even though it's only accessible via OWA)?
