Meh, I quite enjoy the feel of the aluminum MacBook Pro's. Never been too big of a fan of carbon fiber products.

I think driving fast and swerving erratically is a good way to remove a moron from your windshield.Probably a good way to kill someone, probably not the ideal way to deal with an argument, though.

Does it fix the mute button? maybe its just mine but it vibrates when I switch it both ways and some doesn't vibrate when switched to silent.
I assume you have vibrate set to No?

I can also say that the incoming class at my college was 60+% mac. Granted, tutition here is like $43,000 and the student body is about 1600, so this is a not a broad sampling of the population. Still a good sign, though.

I saw this story this morning, and thought it was one of the stupidest reports I've seen in awhile. You could either track some random person who has the device for a few feet, or blow $20 to 'plant' one in someone's backpack. Never mind the rest of the money you'd be spending just to have devices nearby to pick up the signal. This story ranks up next to 'German police battle giant parrot' in importance.

Well, folks, I suppose it's time to announce...
And, after all, if such an announcement as this is to come from anywhere, then why not from he who is the MikeTheC...
I can now unofficially confirm that it is now confirmed. But only unofficially.
Ha, you want to unofficially confirm when it's going to happen as well? Only unofficially, of course

You realize he is talking about illegal immigrants...not immigrants don't you?
I didn't see any mention of race either.I think "I'm a second class citizen in my own country" says it all.

A great recovery by Straus and Flintoff. Made it to tea with only 4 down. Now they need to be carefull not to loose any quick wickets right after the break...

You can buy these blenders. Check Amazon. $400.
Still entertaining. I'm surprised it kept working for so long!

All that hardware is great, but to that doesn't mean you can edit a piece quicker than you would with the current software on an older computer.
That was exactly my point. The newer software will actually take advantage of my computer whereas the older software is a bottle neck. You might've misunderstood my statement.
"12 gigs of RAM + 8 cores + GPU optimization > 4 gigs of RAM + 1.5 cores."
This is the SAME computer. One side is what Final Cut Pro X can take advantage of, the other side is what the current Final Cut Pro can take advantage of. If I don't have to sit and render audio and timelines every time I make an edit on some projects, you better believe that helps me edit faster.
And yes, I get that this doesn't make me "better" at editing. But if I get projects completed and to my clients faster, they'll sure as hell think I'm "better."
:-P

Hi Guys,
I wanted to get your opinions on something.
Recently, Apple added a whole bunch of free online seminars on it's seminars page (you can get there from the Hot News page).
In a number of the seminar descriptions, they speak about the "awesome power" of the "Power Mac G5 Quad" (which is true), and they keep calling it "new" on more than one occasion (it's close to a year old now).
This is interested to me since there's speculation that the "Mac Pro" will be unveiled at the WWDC (hoping). The release of these seminars, and the fact that they promote the quad and call it "new", means that:
a) They're desperately trying to sell as many of these machines as possible because they haven't sold enough of them and before their Intel counterparts are released, and/or,
b) The new "Mac Pro" quad will not be coming out until the year end - perhaps only a mid-range "Mac Pro" will be unveiled @ the WWDC.
What do you guys think?
Regards,
Filmguy

What does the screen look like when you remove the front flass panel? Is is still glossy under there? If the glass panel is just stuck on magnetically like that then what prevents companies of making simple bezels to replace it with the screen area cut out?

Its an ad people, relax.
They spent $500 (if they actually bought it) to make this ad. That's nothing.
Some companies spend millions of dollars on a 30 sec ad. You guys can seemingly only justify money paid to actors, but not money spent on a relatively cheap physical prop.

I won't update unless the benefits are great. Does anyone know of any other, better, changes than those stated which would make updating easier to swallow?

On the MacBook Pros the graphics connection was downgraded from PCIe x16 to PCIe x8 to get PCIe lanes for the TBolt controller.
Wait, seriously?! Not that I'm doubting your credibility ('cause I'm not), but mind linking me to your source on that?

Uh, yeah, I'd say they're falling pretty far behind actually.
Practically every student in my media studies class was lined up to by fully-loaded MacBook Pro's - the semester began in September but they were willing to hang on until October for the "imminent" C2D MBP. October arrived but no laptop C2D, so, around 80 potential Apple customers now have shiny new Dell C2Ds. Dell gave them a great discount, too.
Apple needs to realise that potential switchers aren't willing to eat quite as much ***** as long-time Apple fans like us.
So very true. I am one of those waiting for C2D, but the term has started and I'm still waiting. I am a student developer, and if they wait much longer I will get a Dell. I think about getting the Dell everyday but my heart has been set on the MacBook Pro.
Apple are losing many sales by not offering the cutting edge. Wasn't the point of the Intel switch to have Portable 64-bit offerings that IBM could not deliver with the G5?
