Well, no.. firmware does not (to my knowledge) come through Software Update. I was just saying what you described sounded a lot like what you do when you installed firmware updates on OS 9 boxes. The long startup chime etc.

id love to fill it up with 1024 of cl2 memory but money is really tight, it came with 128 and i was able to pawn 384 off a friend and snagged an old 64mb stick from work that we had donated to us. can the b&w run at 133 or is it 100...i thought i read it was 100, if its 133 i think id take the 64mb stick out.
yeah after looking at the motherboard for this it seems soo much different than a pc board..mainly no capacators.
If you dont mind me asking where did you get the 800mhz upgrade card and how much was it. i think thatm ight be my next step after a 7200rpm hard drive (that is actually in a different machine of mine right now)

So I just got a new macbook air and transfered over my music and apps from Time Machine. The problem I have now is that on my iphone I purchased some apps and music which aren't on the air. But to sync it says I have to erase the iphone. How the heck do I get my music and apps over without it erasing the new apps and music I bought?

Depends on which PowerMac he has.
Only PowerMac G4s before the Digital Audio revision can boot from a Mac OS 9.0 CD, and install it.
If that can be done, then you can install it without harming Mac OS X. Just make sure you don't erase the disk...
If the Mac is a Digital Audio G4 (or later) you'll need a more recent copy of Mac OS 9. (Depending.. from 9.1 to 9.2.2).
The MDD G4 (non-FW 800 version) needs a Mac OS 9.2.2...
Maybe it would be easier to find a copy of the "System Folder" which is used by "Classic" (on your system for instance), and copy that to his Hard Drive.

Hi All,
I'm contemplating jumping to a MBP and would need to sell my current MB to make it happen.
It's a white C2D dual-core 2.0GHz, 80GB HD, 3GB RAM with box, discs, etc. all in like-new condition (battery at 96% health with less than 50 cycles). I also would be including a 13" iLap stand, mini-to-DVI adapter, and an extra Apple AC adapter (I like to leave one in my computer room and have another to travel with).
mac2sell shows the MB alone at $1040 or so. I was thinking $1000 + $50 shipping for the entire package. Does that sound reasonable? High/low?
Thanks,
Mike

I recently got an iMac G4 (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac_700_fp.html) and I am attempting to upgrade the memory. The specs show that it takes 1 512 mb PC 133 SDRAM SODIMM and 1 512 mb PC 133 SDRAM DIMM. The computer originally came with 256 mb (2x128). I upgraded the SODIMM to 512 mb - no problem. However, I have gone through 2 RAM sticks (http://www.amazon.com/512MB-SDRAM-133Mhz-DESKTOP-MEMORY/dp/B003CH7MY0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302143645&sr=8-1) and (http://www.amazon.com/Generic-512-MB-PC133-SDRAM/dp/B000068IKV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302143669&sr=8-2), but they WILL NOT POST or show up in "About my Mac" or the system profiler. I am really confused as to what's going on because it recognizes the original 128 mb DIMM no problem. Is the RAM I am using incompatible? It doesn't seem to be as it's PC133 SDRAM DIMMs. Looking for any other iMac G4 owners who have some advice...

I wouldn't, the quad G5's have major liquid coolant problems that can destroy the machine, if you have to stick with powerpc then get another air cooled dual G5 but an early core 2 duo Intel Mac would be infinitely more future proof.

I followed seisend's advice with Compressor, and chose the Iphone 4/Ipad setting which had a bitrate of 10000, and the file size is now the same as the original files. Thanks for the tip!

I love the Pixelskin HD case. I know it's won a few awards as best case for the iPhone 4 but it's all a personal preference. Get what you want. Or do what I do, buy multiple ones and use the one you like the best.

Hi,
I have a white Macbook from a few years back - the A1181 (http://www.ifixit.com/Info/ID-your-Mac/406) according to iFixit and want to upgrade the hard drive to accomodate more space.
I'm quite happy fitting it and cloning my old drive but want to make sure i order a compatible drive. I've been looking at this
http://www.dabs.com/products/western-digital-320gb-scorpioblue-sata-300-5400rpm-8mb-6MG2.html?q=320gb%20SATA%202.5%205400
Can anyone tell me if it'll work in my macbook?
Thanks
Mark

I see people talking about just buying an Air and returning it. What exactely is the policy if they buy online? Are these people paying restocking fees for simply returning an Air??

You're probably best off asking on the ableton forums really.
40% seems pretty normal though and should still allow you to do plenty of work, is it causing you any problems?

Isn't that system capable of 6GB or even 8GB ram?
I would just upgrade and keep it if you can wait. If not, go ahead, but after you're done with design, you'll be looking to sell that for another system again. For the same $700, you can upgrade quite a bit with the current system.
Yes, up to 8 GB. Even the 13" aluminum unibody MacBooks from late 2008 are capable of 8 GB.

A tad late to the party, are we?
I like your strategy though. Wait until the contest gets down to the final few and then jump in! Brilliant!

I bought the ihome ip90 in January and it worked fantastic for the first couple of months. About 2 weeks ago the screen went black and it did not work. I returned it for another one and again, this time within a week, it went dead again. It still charges my ipod but will not play music. I was hesitant to buy another one. Two days later it randomly started working again; this morning it was working. I noticed that the date that appeared was back to factory settings. I came home only to find it dead once again. I dont know what to do/how to fix it! Does anyone have any suggestions?
