Newer updates contain newer features (that the Apps might require to run) as well as essential security fixes. Running an older iOS version (as with any OS) is simply ill advised.
Obviously, if an app requires newer features it should require it. But if it's just doing basic stuff that you could do since, say, 4.0, why exactly should they require you update to 4.3.3? And if it doesn't need/use things like multitasking, why not use as low of a rev as possible to ensure the most people possible can run the app?
I have a number of friends with 3G phones that refuse to upgrade since they've seen lots of issues on their devices with the newer firmware, and there's an increasing number of apps they can't run but have no discernible reason to be requiring the newest firmware version...

Since FCP will be editing everything natively (and I assume that means all sorts of AVCHD files), ironically that means many of us won't need the super high speed Thunderbolt drives.
AVCHD files top out at 24 Mbps (or thereabouts), and since this is around the bitrate of DV, ye olde FW800 drives should be fine for external storage. Internal storage should be fine - 10 hours of footage will only take 130 GB or so.

Hmm, it seems like this thread has gravitated towards the issue of immigration. :D
This is what I'm thinking: I'm thinking that if we weren't so dependent on foreign sources of crude oil, we wouldn't need costly military bases all over the world to protect our sources of oil; and we wouldn't need to go to war every time a country wants to use a different form of currency to buy crude oil. What would be the situation if WE were the ones exporting energy? What if the United Stated of America, suddenly became the world's number one exporting country of biofuels, such as cyanobacteria diesel fuel? Wouldn't that make a major difference in the health of our empire?
EDIT: Maybe we wouldn't need to be an empire if we were the number one exporter of energy.
in the foreseeable future ... Oil will become less and less in demand

My prediction is that next year optical drives will start to disappear from Macs and will simply be an external option.
Exactly how are people going to install Apple software like Aperture or Final Cut? Or re-install the OS?

So, some crazy bitch climbs on the hood of your car to keep you from leaving and you just have to put up with that?
I'm sorry, I'm not saying the guy should get a free pass, but at some point her own idiocy has to bear some of the blame for this.
You can't be serious.

would you have problems if they banned Islam from France?
If they ban all religion, I'd buy a one way ticket for the next flight to France.
I just hope the plane doesn't crash into a regional jet on the taxiway (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42548948/ns/travel-news/) :p

I think "Macs are slow" has to do with my belief that Macs last longer and therefore there are lots of old ones sitting around in schools. Think about a Mac that is 5 years old and a PC that is 5 years old. One stays a whole lot more usable than the other!
Also, if people are buying $299-399 budget PCs, yes they will sell more. They will also sell them more often! How long do you think someone will keep a computer that costs $300 versus one that costs $1,000-$1,200?

I just wonder if that also measn the Macbook Pro will switch to Magnesium. I mean, Apple liked to make their things look similar to each other in terms of finish. If iPods and MacPros will be Magnesium (although I think Magnesium is a bit too tough and expensive for a computer standing on a floor or desk), it's very probable the MBP will follow with a new look and magnesium finish.
I know some guy whose 12" powerbook has fallen from not too high and its modem port hit a corner. Now the whole thing is a bit warped and there's a metal dent making it impossible to use the modem. That thing wouldn't have happened with a more elastic (in the phisical way) material. I'm just happy my Macbook is plastic. It looks a bit like from the 80s but I like that. :p

How much closer does that 30% get us to PPC apps running on a C2D as fast as a G5?

Revamped finder, pretty pleaaaaase...
There better be some improvements in the Finder and in Spotlight. That should go without saying.

When is Apple going to figure out how to implement software patches instead of forcing people to download a whole copy of the OS for every little update?

All I'm interested in is the hard drive. I'm fine with xbox. 1080i is going to be 1080i on component or HDMI.
I only have a limited number of HDMI ports anyway. One is for the AppleTV and the other is for my HD cable box/DVR and I've been saving the last one for the PS3.
The black case would clash with everything else I have on my entertainment center. The TV, AppleTV, Xbox360 and rotel receiver are all chrome or white.

Just bought the app, within seconds, I could watch the tv on my iPhone. Using airport extreme, everything works out of the box, hassle free. Should have been perfect if iPhone Eyetv app can connect directly to HDHomeRun, no need to have the computer on all the time.
