from John Gruber at Daringfireball.net (http://www.daringfireball.net)
i have to agree that would be even cooler than a new phone; a new mobile platform entirely. unlikely, but cool.
Don't think it's that unlikely.
1. Take NEXTSTEP. Add some OS X enhancements, such as the GUI, most of Darwin, but leave out new frameworks etc unless they're absolutely necessary, and forget about 90% of the device drivers and stuff as they're unnecessary.
2. Add Java (at least, J2ME)
3. Add Quicktime
Result: OS X Lite. They could easily have been keeping this in development for the last ten years, as they did OS X for Intel, without anyone knowing. For the most part, it's a set of Makefile flags added to Mac OS X.
But that's not the only way of doing it. An alternative is to take an OS like Mac OS 9, remove some of the unnecessary stuff, upgrade the GUI a little, and have Java and maybe CarbonLib. Very low on the resource requirements, very efficient.
Apple doesn't have to build this thing from the ground up. It already has two candidates in terms of old systems that have 90% of the functionality required and just need tweaking and a UI overhaul to make them "just work".

Hi guys,
I will be applying for some internships and need to get a technical resume done sometime in the future. I want to pay a professional to do it but in my area there are none around my area that write resumes for technical fields. I was wondering if any of you have ever used an online service, and if so would you recommend one?
I've been on the hiring side of things many times and I know how important a nice looking resume is and mine definitely needs updated so I am in search of a service that does this well.

A HyperMac MB060 would also work. Probably cheaper too.
I can get a HyperMac MBP150 for 200 (second hand).
Which is about the same price as an extra removable battery + charging station.
Which option would you recommend & why?

I don't understand how they are able to accurately compare game revenue for iOS to game revenue from Nintendo, when Apple doesn't separate games from other genres. (or do they?)
It would be nice if metacritic scores were posted on games like the tomato score is for movies.

Note though that FAT drives have file size limits of 4 gigs - in other words, no one single file can be 4 gigs or larger meaning that some files will have to be split up.

Hi.
Can I "dual boot" and have bootcamp-Windows on one screen and OSX on another? Or when using Bootcamp do I HAVE to choose one or the other?
It would be awesome to have the power/stability/support of bootcamp and have OSX running at the same time.... and just use "spaces" to toggle around.
Also, is Windows 7 the preferred OS to use now? I have been using XP for a long time and am ready to upgrade, but have no idea what to get.

Thanks. On the subject of editing. I know a track can be muted, but what about a region (section) without having to mute the whole track? Can a region be muted separately?

just for the record, this link has been submitted around 10 times now, but I've been on the whole unimpressed by the desktops so far. Maybe by offering the link and getting some new blood in there, it will liven up.
Or you go visit my website @ http://homepage.mac.com/nuber

Is if Ecamm updated they're iChatUSB software to integrate fully with Leopard. After shooting off 11 emails back and forth to their tech support, I finally gave up...

There are some sites that let you download music. You could try the further network link (http://mp3.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=mp3&zu=http%3A%2F%2Ffurthurnet.com) .Quote from site, "The Furthur Network is the first and only 100% non-commercial, open-source, peer-to-peer network of legal live music created by fans for fans!" I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to now.
allofmp3.com is temporally not accepting PayPal so unless you want to give your credit card info to a russian site I'd give it a week or two

Hello,
An issue I have wasted way too much time on and hoping for some insight here. I have a bunch of PDF's I am trying to open in illustrator. The vector images come through alright, but all the text is converted to . If I save the PDF again in Preview as a PDF-X the text now appears as random numbers and symbols like: +4)%$*0!$)%#5!!673!%$'()*#!+,$-!
I am now saying "+4)%$*0!$)%#5!!673!%$'()*#!+,$-!" and any insight would be appreciated.
PS the text will copy and paste with no errors from preview into word or illustrator. It is only when I open the file in illustrator the text is gone.

I am looking for some good headphones because my cheap in ears have broken. Again. I heard skullcandy's are good. I found both of them for 28 dollars and 32 dollars on overstock.com. I plan on listening to rap and hip hop and techno with a little rock. Which one should I get? Opinions?
i was going to get hesh, but i picked up some smokin' buds to save 10 bucks. they have some sick bass for only $25. bottom line: hesh.

My modified original plan is for a Mac Pro:
1. 120 SSD for my boot drive, including OS and software: bay 1
2. 320 GB- 500 GB to backup the boot drive: bay 2.
3. 500 GB-750GB drive for photo storage and scratch disc: bay 3
4. the OEM 1 TB to backup the photo/scratch disc drive: bay 4.
...
Another question, SR20DETDOG stated I do not need a 7200 rpm drive for storage and that makes sense, but if I am using the drive as storage and scratch disc, then should I buy a 7200 rpm drive?

How much more could the cards value possibly go up. Except for a collector who would pay more for the original card than what the computer its going into will be worth. So IMO I would sell it.
