I have a cheap Bytecc external case. (Oxford 911 chipset) It has both firewire and usb2. I put a harddrive in one and a Lite-On DVD burner in the other.
Both work great for windows and mac.

Oh, will it harm the hardware? I always wanted to try but just afraid that it would hard the speaker. And I meant increasing volume of alarm clock only without affecting the others. As in, separate system something like that. I dont wanna use 3rd party alarm because I heard that they are battery consuming, is that true? Thanks :o
It shouldn't harm the hardware, Ive used it before and no harm has come of my speakers. I don't know if Third party alarms are battery consuming, but they are worth a try really.
Ill see if I can find some way of modding the volume so that it only affects the alarm volume

They won't swap it for an iPad 2, as there are still plenty of replacement iPad 1s.

That's pretty lucky, technically your warranty was void with the ipad baseband.
Also remember once you have the ipad 6.15 baseband you must always use a custom firmware that doesnt update the baseband. All normal IPSW files will fail after doing ipad baseband.

Question for the masses...
I am not doing any photo editing, but I going to be running GNS3 which is networking simulation program used to simulate Cisco and Juniper networking devices and it is very CPU intensive.
I am currently running it on a 13'' MBP 2.4 ghz C2D and it runs at 75-85% cpu.
If I maxed out the MBA , do you think that it could handle it or am I just wasting my time and money and I should just get the 15'' quadcore as planned?
Thanks in advance!

I guess I should have left well enough alone. Now Cydia crashes on launch, I can't connect via ssh, and the iphone is not recognized when plugged in via USB. Obviously I'm unable to install ultrasn0w and unlock so my phone is basically unusable. Any suggestions?

oh ok, so if i bout the new cisco 3000 then i can use it and sell my aebs! might have to go that route!
I have no idea. "Cisco 3000" yields several different search results. Despite that, I still have no idea what you want to even do- you seem to be working off a major misconception. Buying another router won't magically turn a router into a modem. Your AEBS is a router that works just fine.

I've been through this twice now. I now realize TM is a stopgap backup solution and must be augmented by another long term backup such as an off site backup or manually copying certain files to another disk. In fact, I had a scare today where my Mac was acting a little funny and I said to myself "what the heck" and i copied my entire documents folder off to my firewire drive. But to get back to TM, for me Apple support had me use disk utility to "check" the sparsebundle file created by TM. It is on a network drive (an Apple Time Capsule). It turns out the file was corrupted and I had to delete it and start over. If you count the time I had to send my failed TC back, I've been through this 3 times now. If you are thinking you can "enter time machine" and go back to the day you got your Mac you are sadly mistaken. You can only go back to the last time your TM target disk got corrupted. What causes this? Apple says it's my Mac going to sleep during a backup. Wait an effing second here... Are they trying to tell me that the company that designed the OS and wrote TM can't be bothered to postpone sleeping during a backup? Anyway, I know this is not true. I have disabled sleep and I've had a corrupted backup since doing so. I do back up over wifi. If they are trying to tell me I can't use wifi they can go to the he double hockeysticks place. I refuse to plug in when I have an 802.11n AEBS.

ahh darn. i was hoping you were going to say you hated your new mac. having bought pc notebooks, macbooks, mac book pro's i can say a similar spec'd machine is not a whole lot more money when you step up to a mac. no way a comparable mac is 1000 more than a pc. perhaps a gold plated mpb.

Hmmm.... in vecLib/clapack.h they're declared with a trailing underscore. If I replace sgetrf with sgetrf_ it still compiles and runs and the implicit declaration warning goes away. Strange that they're declared this way?
Maybe there's a sgetrf() macro somewhere that's defined in terms of sgetrf_().

When you say map what, exactly, do you mean? A folder (or in Unix terms a directory)?
yea, a folder :P

I had this ages ago back in the 2.x days. Pretty sure an iTunes reinstall fixed it for me.

so when it worked was just a fluke? :(
Is there any way to get it fixed for cheap? I wanted to give this phone to my sis overseas.
You can try finding an iPhone repair shop and have them take a look at it. There's plenty places online you can send it to or maybe some local.

Just a note.
The F7 Mirror Mode Only works with PowerBooks that have the key. Early TiBooks, without the key, do not have the functionality. (It is menu driven.)
They need F8 set up to "Detect Displays". If I had this functionality, it would make my live much easier.

180 bucks for a pre-amplifier? I just want to use it for Skype... and I don't want to carry around a pre-amplifier AND a microphone. I'll probably have a look at bluetooth headsets, that seems to be the cheaper and more portable solution.

Trackpads are incredibly sensitive to anything on them. I cleaned mine the other day with a Lysol disinfecting wipe and the small bit of "cleaning film" screwed-up the trackpad for half an hour. That probably isn't the problem in your case but it's worth keeping in mind.
Also, it might be a good idea to repair permissions just for fun, and run a good deep-cleaning program like OnyX. Is everything else working normally, and up to speed? While hardware problems happen, I'd take a close look at the software first.
