I bought them, they were uncomfortable. Couldn't enjoy the music cause 15 minutes in it felt like someone took a razor blade to my ears.

Took them back and got a Phillips set which are perfect (and $75 back).

I don't really know much about projectors, but I suppose you could create a semipermanent mounting (such as running cables through a hole under a table).

Or you could buy two projectors (one mounted, one travelling) with good resolution for the cost of this extremely expensive one.

Squaretrade is more like insurance. The value of the policy is the amount of total repair costs you can incur. If you reach that limit you dont have any coverage.

With Apple you can have repairs done under warranty for the entire period (no spending limit).

For something like the MBA with likely high repair costs...I am not convinced Squaretrade is the best way to go.

    Hi guys,
I just got some interesting display when I clicked the 'About this Mac' (& can't get that display back with any optional Keys+Mouse clicks).
All 4 pics are with-in that display. Here it is:
The 5th pict is for philipma. The Xbench stops at 2nd 'Thread Test' so I had to exclude that test but as you can see it would add quite to the overall score (since 2 counts are missing & both would be in 400 ~ 500 range) and as you can see the total up to that point is 256...

I played around with Midomi.com a couple of times. You sing or hum the song and it gives you hits. Unfortunately, it seems like it pulls the results from user-contributed samples only, and it is heavy on the chinese/japanese songs. Otherwise, it seems to actually work fairly well!

It seems like Shazam could easily be modified to do the same thing with their better music database.

Research in the US has found that songs get stuck in our heads because they create a "brain itch" that can only be scratched by repeating the tune over and over.

In Germany, this type of song is known as an "ohrwurm" - an earworm - and typically has a high, upbeat melody and repetitive lyrics that verge between catchy and annoying.

Songs such as the Village People's YMCA, Los Del Rio's Macarena, and the Baha Men's Who Let The Dogs Out owe their success to their ability to create a "cognitive itch," according to Professor James Kellaris, of the University of Cincinnati College of Business Administration.

"A cognitive itch is a kind of metaphor that explains how these songs get stuck in our head," Professor Kellaris told BBC World Service's Outlook programme.

"Certain songs have properties that are analogous to histamines that make our brain itch.

"The only way to scratch a cognitive itch is to repeat the offending melody in our minds."

    'Insidious and blatant'

Professor Kellaris has presented the early results of his earworm research at a conference on Consumer Psychology.

He said that virtually everyone suffered from a cognitive itch at one time or another.

"Across surveys I found that from 97% to 99% of the population is susceptible to earworms at some time," he stated.

"But certainly some people are more susceptible than others. Women tend to be more susceptible than men, and musicians are more susceptible to them than non-musicians."

The research is of particular interest to both the pop industry - looking to boost sales - and to advertisers, who often use jingles to get their brand name stuck in the head of listeners.

"For both advertising purposes and pop music purposes, you want something that once heard is not forgotten quickly or easily," explained jingle writer Chris Smith, adding that a good earworm was "Insidious - and often quite blatant".

"One of the key elements of an earworm is repetition," he said.

"If you have something with a lot of varied content, it's not so easily assimilated.

"So really, I would have thought that for practical purposes an earworm is really something that people can take on very quickly and then reproduce while walking down the street, much to everybody else's annoyance."

    Clearing the mind

Even the greatest musicians had suffered with earworms, Mr Smith said.

Mozart's children would "infuriate" him by playing melody and scales on the piano below his room - but stopping before completing the tune.

"He would have to rush down and complete the scale because he couldn't bear to listen to an unresolved scale," Mr Smith related.

Professor Kellaris said that his research had shown that there was, however, no standard for creating an earworm - people could react differently to different tunes.

"I compiled a top 10 list of earworms in the US, but the number one item is simply the category 'other' - which means that any tune is prone to become an earworm," he said. "It's highly idiosyncratic."

And he added that there was also no guaranteed way of ever getting the song off the brain.

"Replacement strategies rarely work, because as we search our memories for a replacement tune, we're likely to come up with another earworm," he admitted.

"Some people swear by completion strategies - if you listen through a piece in its entirety, some times that will make it go away."

If you spend a lot of time in Premiere Pro you want the Quadro.

Photoshop has an OpenGL mode, but it's off by default and is usually slower, so I would say your card won't really matter for Photoshop.

But I should be able to turn ON OpenGL in Photoshop, correct ?

    I have a Mac Pro 2009.

Just after I installed my new Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac I noticed that the fans are running at a much higher speed, everything else is working fine though, has anybody else noticed something like this ?. Just to clarify I am talking about the Mac Pro fans, not the one in the Video Card.

I am not using any other video card with the Quadro 4000. I've installed the Quadro 4000 on the PCI Slots #1 and #2 (both x16), just to try different locations but it's always the same issue.

I don't think the issue is temperature related, sometimes for no reason with the Mac Pro idle the computer fans will start ramping up speed up to very high RPMs, and sometimes with load on the computer the fans will run at very low RPMs, so I do not see a correlation between temperature and fan speed.

If I run Cinebench and execute an OpenGL test the Fans RPM will go down to the normal values and will stay there, this is really weird, it seems like the card needs to be activated or engaged by some OpenGL application and the fans (Expansion Slot and Power Supply) will return to their normal values.

I've been monitoring temperatures with iStat Menus, monstly CPU temperature and always in normal ranges, around 38C to 40C.

    Any suggestion ?, thanks

I am heading 55 miles to get a new Macbook Pro (Mine is 4 years old). They have my configuration in stock.. HOWEVER, they want to sell me a One to One $99 and they will then be happy to transfer my files. Not today of course - leave it and they will call when ready for me. Isn there some software/cables out there to to the job.

I hesitate to mention that, because my last transfer was PC to Mac. What a nightmare.

Apple to Apple? Do I have to spend the $99 then drive 565RT again?

Yes and yes. Boot Camp Assistant does create a second partition, but is using the FAT32 file system. You need to format the second partition using HFS+.
But you could also use Disk Utility to partition your HDD/SSD.

Guide on how to use Disk Utility from the restore / installation DVD. (http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=3810)
