I have a Time Machine back up from a White MacBook that I sold. I started fresh when I purchased my Unibody MacBook Pro. My question is... is there anyway I can grab some of those files from the old Time Machine backup and put on my new MacBook Pro? Any advice would help. Thanks!

If they had them, and consequently added probably $100 or more to the price of the display, would you actually commit to buying one... today?
Possibly, but that's a limitation on LCD tech in general which will get better with time, but Apple LCD's at present are probably among the best computer LCD displays available. I don't know what else you'd do until the tech itself improves... except to say this: Those who are really serious about color, clarity and contrast should stick to CRT's for the time being. Nothing beats a Trinitron in this arena.
Probably... but the greater likelihood is that graphic designers who tend to buy the higher end Apple LCD's don't. Matte displays are far better for accurate color and contrast. Glossy displays falsely enrich the image, which is a problem if you're trying to maintain a color match from prepress to proof.
BANG ON MAN, BANG ON.

Quite a lot of us own Apple products in Madagascar; we have an Apple store in Antananarivo, as well. You'd be surprised. Have you visited SW Africa?

What does this mean? The slashdot crowd hasn't even weighed in on this yet (11:00 PM central).
Does this mean that Gimp is going to get a major overhaul?
Will I be able to get a less expensive version of CS?
Will I be able to compile my own CS (holy crap!)?
I don't think it means much at this point. Depends on where it goes... Mostly I see data structures, and pieces of a grammar and parsing engine. What I don't see is the source for any filters or transforms or anything high level.
Of your questions, your GIMP question might be the closest to the extent that this information allows them to become more compatible. It won't add features as far as I can tell, but it might allow GIMP to work with and export to Photoshop, for example.
It looks like they're just putting their toe in the water-- not sure what Adobe hopes to gain from this... Apple managed to get a developer community to focus on something much more complex (Darwin) but Adobe put out a bunch of stuff that doesn't seem that special or interesting.
I guess what I mean is when people hear "Adobe" they don't think "multiply linked data structures"...
Maybe I'm speaking too quickly-- I don't know what the Adam/Eve engines do really and they might be more powerful than they appear from the top levels of documentation. My guess is that Adobe is looking for help in keeping these engines secure and bug free, which would be a very good use of open source.
Maybe this is their plug-in interface, which would also be a very good use of open source.
It's an interesting trend though, and probably a good one-- look at your IP, decide what is really important to keep proprietary, and open the rest up. That's good, I think. Adobe's page itself seems to suggest they're trying to give utility classes that help extend STL.

Hi, folks. I obtained an eMac PowerPC 1.25GHz G4 PowerPC. I visited Crucial's site and added a 512mb stick. I've heard that it's possible to upgrade to 2GB of RAM. Crucial only says 1GB (x2 512 sticks).
If it is possible, what kind of RAM would I need?
Where can I get the 2GB sticks?
Thank you from a humble brand-new Mac user. :)
Robb
P.S. f it helps any, I'm running OS X 5.1 installed.

It is real easy, the sidewalk along the road behind the Apple Store (west side of the Gateway) you can stay there all night. I have for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 and iPad. I always bring a chair and food and stuff and a extension cord for power. Sometimes people bring a projector for movies on the wall but I don't know if they are coming in the night again.
It is actually quite fun. I have nothing wrong with staying the night.
I would love to do that, but I have to work tomorrow :( Maybe i ll just stop by and chill, i dont know.
Disclaimer: im hearing impaired haha.

Another thing which I've just noticed with it, after about 2 hours of charging it has said that it is charged. But after pulling it out of the dock and plugging it straight back in it has gone on and charged for another few hours (not sure how long exactly but over 2 at least). Anyone else experience this?

I looked into getcwd, and I was able to get the directory of the executable. I wrote some code to modify the path to go up a couple of folders, and I verified that it did the correct modifications. Furthemore, I found that the program worked just fine when I opened the package contents of the .app file and ran the executable inside the MacOS folder from Terminal.
However, the .app will not run from Finder.

Yep, but is it ethical to tax him at 90?
Why would it not be? If you apply a 90% rate evenly to the top percentile, seems to me it would be quite fair. It would help fund the government assistance programs that will make it easier for him to survive on a paltry $500 million.

I like it. but your voice is a little flat with the guitar. Also, I recommend adding some of that other talent into your music. Guitar and vocals, thats all you use? Come on, it would sound more beautiful to add some bass, even the Violin or Flute. Im a musician myself, and I play in a band of two violinist, viola, and cello player and we play rock.

i have played D2 on my intel iMac.
it has been a while so forgive me if i am wrong.
i think the only issue was choosing video to be software rendering over openGL. openGL doesnt work well for many people so choose software rendering.

I don't think that people here will clue you in as to how to pirate a piece of software.
;)
I have heard a lot of great things about Audacity, although I've never tried it....
Tom, I understand your frustration, but I guess, I'm not sure why you would expect that every Mac come with exactly the same software complement.... it isn't true anywhere else in the computer industry. Sorry. :(

I appreciate arn's hard work, and think standard-compliance is great news.
I have to admit, though, that in terms of look-and-feel, I prefered the old design, due to its less-is-more approach and clean, minimalist design. Like others have stated, I, too, feel the new design is too dense and information-laden. I would prefer it if the new left column weren't there, for a cleaner, less cluttered look.
I also don't care too much about the dark brown color (this was there before, I know) and think grey might fit nicer with the blue hues on the site, but that's a personal preference.
I also don't see why the new tabs have to be pseudo 3-d. Sure, Apple is using their trademark aqua look for tabs on their website, but aside from them, many are going back from the 90s 3-d look to cleaner, contemporary 2-d, such as in the iPod campaign (I also don't get too excited about the tan tab color, but again, that's just me).
I hope I'm not sounding too negative here, as I overall very much appreciate the re-design efforts and important changes and think on balance it's a great job.

AAPL up 3% aftermarket.
I think that was pre-announcement. I read where trading was halted until 4:50 EDT. Still have 7 minutes to see if the "soft" iPad numbers cause the weak hands to sell.
I'm guessing that Apple will drop about 3% from the 4PM close with people focusing on the iPad numbers.
Guess I was completely wrong.

I have to agree here.
Until they find games that the 3D is actually part of game play (it is essential to the actual game and not just add on prettyness), it's just a nice extra but it's a gimmick and not enough to actually sell it over other devices. ANd I really don't see how 3d, at least how it is implemented in the Nintendo, can really be implemented to be part of game play and not just something to pretty up the screen. Sure, it adds to the experience, but it's not essential to the experience. You could play a similar game on another game player easily enough, just not as "pretty".
Any console/hand held in the end, if it is going to sell itself for playing games, has to get the games that make people want it to play them.
Not to rain on your parade but there will never be a game that requires 3D for the 3DS. It will always be optional because not everyone can use it/see it or at the very least can play it for as long before they are fatigued. Game designers probably won't be too keen to limit their market like that for something that would work just as well as a 2D game.
As far as iOS gaming and the virtual joystick kludge, I agree. It is like how in some very early console games/programs you had a full on mouse cursor that you controlled with the D-pad. How long did it take them to figure out that was a horrible idea? You have to design for the device, and not many developers are doing it (great examples of how not to do it are the various RPGs with maybe the exception of Battleheart but even that is a bit clunky). Personally, I hope someone ports a game like Aquaria or Ocarina of Time because I think touch based gaming is much better at music than console or keyboard & mouse because it can just give you a keyboard or some other simulation.

A line can't be formed until 10 PM or 10 AM?

I downloaded BOINC, made an account, it says that it is running. Joined the MR Team.
BOINC is for other projects, like SETI. macrumors does have a team.
Passkey? So I downloaded the file on that site and opened that Fah6 thing, and it is asking for a passkey. Do I have to do anything else other than that? And how can I have it run automatically?
you can get a passkey, but you don't have to have one. since you're just starting, i'd just leave it blank
