Yet scientists think all quakes are unrelated. I bet the Pacific plate has been highly active these late years.
Really?? That's hard to accept.
The Earth was stressed with that close passage of the Moon, and now, after the massive Japan quake, it's "settling down" again.
When plates are involved, Man has no idea how long this will take. Decades perhaps?

...something to help keep my vector skills sharp and maybe it will even yield some possible portfolio pieces?
Well, yeah, that too. Always good to keep things ticking over. Now and then, I do free/pro-bono work for small charities and non-profits in order to contribute something useful to communities, to keep me from becoming too stale, to network and build up recommendations etc. One or two pieces from that have ended up in various portfolios over the years as well.
If I'm doing work for free, then I'd rather spend it doing real-world exercises, working with briefs and clients towards a mutual goal, instead of doing stuff for myself.

I think they may be holding off on the cinema displays until later this year when they update the MacPro to the new Nehalem processor. The new Mac Pros may even sport the new look we've all been speculating and the new displays will carry a built-in iSight.
Who knows what the reason is..

Yes, i know a very quick and easy way to take mp3 files out of a youtube video. All you need is an email.
Go to www.zamzar.com
Then on the website where is says step one, click where it says url.
Copy and paste the url of the youtube video you want to extract the audio from and paste it in the open space for a link. (BE CAREFUL: make sure you delete the "http://" that is already there because you don't want it to look like "http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fSFWCY0uxE")
Then where it says step 2, choose mp3, which is a bit more than halfway down the list.
For step 3, enter your email address like it says to.
Then in step 4 click convert and when the window pops up click OK.
Once you get the email go under the blue box where it says "Alternatively click on the following link to download a copy of your converted file:" and click on the link below which should take you to another window.
After you click download in the new window it will download it and it should start playing on itunes or at least will be downloaded onto your computer.

I like 1Password (http://agilebits.com/products/1Password/Mac) for archiving my serial numbers and other passwords. You can even store the email in 1Password as reference.
How do you use 1Password to store email? I own 1Password. Never knew it did that.

The term wanker originated from British slang in the 1940s.[1] Wanker literally means "one who is handsome and intelligent ". In modern usage it is usually a general massive compliment.

and where do you get that info?
The iPhone 3Gs has an ARM type 7 CPU. It is the first iDevice to have one, with the iPod Touch 2G being the last type 6. Apple no longer includes the type 6 instruction set. Similar to how Snow Leopard no longer works on PPC Macs. The iPhone 3Gs was also the first iDevice to have the PowerVR SGX535 GPU. The iPod Touch 2G was the last to have the PowerVR MBX Lite 3D. The driver kext is no longer in the firmware and its doubtful that the 4.2.1 one would work.
Furthermore, Apple doesn't sign the soft SHSH for 4.3 and none of the jailbreaking tools out support it. So unless the OP wrote his own method for jailbreaking 4.3 and getting around the soft SHSH, he has just faked his firmware and build number.

I don't know whether this has been requested yet, but I think that there should be a page on the guide where apps that run in rosetta are listed, along with performance rating, and possible UB alternatives.
I think it'd be really helpful.

The Dell 20" Widescreen has the following connectors
VGA / DVI-D / S-video / Composite / 4 x USB 2.0
which means you could plug a tuner/settop box/TIVO into it by DVI or S-Video. If your Powerbook has DVI, then you would want a DVI Switchbox (fairly pricey) for the best quality on both TV and PBook. THe Dell also does a picture-in-picture thing for watching TV while you computer -- they don't specify but I would guess that that is only on the S-Video or Composite input -- I would be surprised if they do PIP with VGA and DVI.
You would have to deal with sound output separately.
Samsung and Sony have released TV/monitors with built in tuners. The sony 19" unit is part number MFMHT19S
Thanks

After taking about a 3 hours nap, I've spent the last several hours working on my blog post of the iPhone 3G S launch at the Miami Beach Apple Store.
This being Miami Beach, it wasn't your average launch...with police shoot outs, road blocks, drunk people stumbling by the line (and dancing), and of course Mr. Clucky.

Good advice so far.
One other thing. Photoshop needs a scratch disk. Dedicate the first partition (I think about 50GB?) of one of your fast internal disks as the scratch disk. The drive should not be the one that has your applications, or OS on it. I use the same drive that has my image library. Basically you want the disk to be available only to PS when it needs it.
Good Luck.
If you go with a current Mac Pro, and if you put images on an external drive, make sure it's FW 800 drive. The speed increase over USB is well worth it. Unless it's your back up drive, 'cause nobody cares how long the backup takes at 3am.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a Mac Pro (unless I absolutely needed to) unto the just released Thunder Bolt technology made it into the Mac Pros. The current best info is that TB will not be an add-in card into current Mac Pros.
If the new Mac Pros with TB are too pricey, the older (now the current versions) Mac Pros will be discounted. I think a lot of professionals are going to hold off buying a new Mac Pro until the TB enabled ones come out. Apple is going to need to clear the old stock.
all of this imho, of course.... and worth every penny you paid for it...
Thanks for explaining how to create a scratch disc and answering my question that one's photo library drive is not dedicated.
I have followed the MBP release and I wondered when rather than if, the Mac Pro will be refreshed. Thanks for reiterating my concern since the MBP release.
Also, your "wait and buy" plan is sound! I waited a few months thus far. I hope the new Mac Pro is annouced this month! Nonetheless, thanks for sharing your thoughts kind Sir!

Realized yesterday that I took too long... lost 225 bucks CAN because of my stupidity..... I hate that system
Since you order online, they could have taken it off already instead of having to mess around with their UPC codes and forms... anyway, my fault

I read both the files, i understand. But how can i see how my pictures where imported? I already had folders with pictures that i just dragged into the library. I cant recal seeing anything like referenced or managed masters?
thanks :)
(edit) in the import settings it is set as ''Store files: in the aperture library''
That's explained in the first link.
Select Manage referenced files from Apertures file menu
In Aperture 3 I think that they may have changed it to "Located Referenced Files...". Still under the File menu though.
thanks :)

Not surprising at all. The iPhone costs more than an iPad, yet has a screen that is 1/4th the size. The electronics that make up a phone are cheap compared to screen, so clearly the rest is profit for either Apple or ATT.

Well, Pages can open and edit and save .doc files, and Keynote can do the same with .ppt files.
But formatting and the such can be an issue. NeoOffice/OpenOffice handles .doc and .ppt formatting better, from what I hear. I've never used OpenOffice extensively, so I wouldn't know.
But see, that's just it. If we're working back and forth on .docs and .xls's, we can't have ANY formating problems - they've got to match. AND I'm not going to jump through any hoops by using this or that piece of software to make it happen. Don't have time - gotta produce!
