But I am sure that Nokia knew a very long time ago that Apple was infringing and did nothing (which is perfectly their right)...and let Apple make billions...then file a lawsuit to cash in.

The iPhone came out in mid 2007. It's not like Apple gives out their schematics and source code, so it could take a while for Nokia to figure out which patents are being used.

(Just as it took Apple several years to figure out which patents to sue HTC over.)

In this case, Nokia fairly quickly started asking Apple to pay royalties for the wireless technologies they were using. It's Apple that has delayed for years.

Think about it...why would Nokia file suit immediately to earn, say, a pesky $5 or $20 million (and give Apple a chance to make the product better) when Nokia can wait years and earn hundreds of millions or billions?

That only makes sense for patent holders that want a one-time payment. Nokia licenses their patents per device, and the GSM/WiFi ones probably can't be gotten around, so it matters less when they sue.

And again, Apple's known about many of these patents for years. They apparently would rather rake in the profits now and pay later.

    Yawn.

Wake me up when it supports Exchange 2003 just like all of their Windows versions.

Que the one MS fanboy who will say it's old tech and Microsoft will never support it.

Guess the team that works on Office 2010 for the PC never got that memo since that works like a dream with Exchange 2003.

Or, you could be like the Office for Mac team and happily keep your head in the sand.

i seriously effing hope it's more than improvements to file sync'ing, spotlight, and virtual desktops. that's pathetic. we need a revolutionary OS revision.

I was just going to say the EXACT same thing! You said it perfectly, whenpaulsparks! That's right, I don't want to see Steve Jobs demo some new Spotlight/Sherlock. I want to see revolutionary, fricken awsome, Vista-crushing, earth shaking features, a totally revamped and polished GUI, Enterprise features, etc. Come on Apple! Don't dissapoint me!

Nothing's been set in stone yet. I like the idea of meeting up in one of the lounges and having everybody with the business card/piece of paper sticking out of their badge holder with "MR" on it so that we can identify each other.

Since I only have the Exhibit Hall pass, I likely won't be spending all that much time there, but I'll schedule things so that I can be there for any meet-ups. I'll likely not be there during or immediately after the keynote, as I'd rather follow it from the comforts of my home on MRLive than with my ear pressed up against the auditorium wall.

I'm up for just about anything anytime, so maybe someone with more constraints on their schedule can suggest a day and time for the meet-up.

Has it occured to you that your smug elitism and gross stereotyping is exactly why lots of people hate Ivy Leaguers in the first place?

You should at least recognize that time change. Some Ivy League schools were aggressively phasing out Macs less than a decade ago, and as recent as five years ago.
My point exactly. Square institutions like Princeton and Yale are well known for, well, being square. It's no surprise a distinct minority of students there are Mac users (even if some of the rest are switcheurs). Take a walk around an Ivy League school with a student population in command of a more comprehensive understanding of aesthetics--Harvard, Brown, or especially Columbia with its boho-beat appeal--and you can't help but notice the difference. Students at these schools, unlike those at Princeton, are natural-born Mac users.

That, in short, is why it's wrong to paint all Ivy Leaguers with the same broad brush. You're not a bigot, are you?

Sounds like you should try another OS, maybe Wndows.

I'm pretty happy with 10.6, and I'm glad Apple trimmed it down instead of bloating it up. But I would like a different launcher than the current Dock. I have lots if programs I regularly use. I use folders in the Dock, but that's no better than Wndows' drop-down menus. Maybe it would be more efficient to have a trigger like the one for Dashboard -- hit a function key and your most-used apps glide in for selection.

    Funny, I thought the same!

Design has nothing to do with it. It is a function of availability of parts. If the parts are not being made yet, the phone can't be manufactured. I am hoping Apple is waiting for the second generation LTE chips.

    Well yes,..
If the issue is purely the tech just isn't ready then throwing cash at it won't help.....

but Apple has a big horde of Cash so if the issue with the parts is the economic risk of retooling to build them and ramp up production. Then that is something pre-buying maybe able to solve.

And yet they still might. The culture there is very honor bound. It can great a lot of stress. Especially if you just lost the job that is supporting your family out in the country, have been publicly humiliated and probably blacklisted from similar jobs.

As for Foxconn having them arrested, I'm not surprised. They risk losing their contracts with more than just Apple if it is implied that they condone this behavior. So they have to come out against it even if they really aren't

Oh yeah!?!?! Very honor-bound I'm sure! For a country that is number 1 in the world for software piracy and other forms of theft of intellectual property they have a very strange way of showing it.

On the other hand, Apple knew when they decided to manufacture their products in China, what they were bargaining for! These people sometimes live in extreme poverty and need to find any means of supporting their family. For Apple it is just money but for these people it is their lives and their family's life. It just goes to show how companies like Apple make their money. To us North Americans they paint a very pretty picture of themselves but underneath the surface they are corporate savages who are willing to strike down any human being that gets in their way to make a buck.

What has Android gained with its increased market share?

Devs are still making more apps and money for and from iOS.

Apple is making way more money then Android phone makers.

Accessory makers are making more money.

Consumers get updates and apps before Android, for the most part.

Jailbreaking, while hopefully becomes less needed as iOS grows, is easy for anyone that can use an iPhone. Rooting on an Android is not as easy for every single model.

I'm a google fan and an Android user, but I am switching to the iPhone 5. One less to add to the Android surge.

There is no equivalence. Her choices did not endanger his life in any way.

You look for equivalence where we have stated none. We have simply stated that her choices endangered her own life. She is a victim of herself. That is our only point.

End thread in my case. I will excuse your posts from my browser using my CP.

Just finished it with only a few hiccups.

Was disappointed in following the keynote via MR. Seeing the demos has me a bit excited now.

New iChat features look very cool and I don't chat.

Web Clip is very cool. I see uses for it at work already. Wish I used a Mac full time at work.

Spaces seems to be a very convenient way to get rid of clutter.

New Mail features might get me to finally adopt it and lose Entourage.

    Time Machine was very cool.

Spotlight looks to be what we all wanted all along.

Oh well, we'll have to wait until Spring.

my aren't you the apple apologist today?

Whilst you're right that many of us would struggle picking out our favourite beer brands from a line up it would be easy to spot the one that doesn't actually taste of beer at all, namely Budweiser.

This will work because it neatly sidesteps the fundamental issue that plagues glasses-based 3D.

There are two component parts to stereoscopic vision: the focussing of the individual eyes and the convergence angle between the two eyeballs. Millions of years of evolution has linked these two sub-systems together in the unconscious. In order to view 3D images on a screen using 3D glasses, the individual eyes need to remain focussed on the physical images on the screen, while the convergence of the two eyeballs needs to change in order to track the virtual images that are appear closer to or further away from the viewer. This requires the decoupling of the focus from the divergence, requiring an almost conscious effort, leading to the fatigue that many have experienced.
