Then you haven't been paying attention. We've KNOWN new iMacs were coming in September ever since Intel announced Core 2 Duo was coming in September, THREE MONTHS AGO. I've been waiting three months for the Core 2 Duo iMac update.
Me too, I doubt if Apple wil wait another month because other PC manufacturers have release a few Core 2 Duos over the last few days and lets face it Apple is now competing on a hardware basis now as well.

Only in America.... Bad form unless it was in defence. How about non lethal take downs, fair courts and appropriate justice, such as jail with community service, get criminals doing something constructive for society and trying to get them back on track?
The right to carry guns and to kill absolutely baffles me. Surely shooting and killing is a worser crime than stealing? The threat of being shot/killed sounds too authoritarian/totalitarian for me.
I can't believe the mentality of people on these forums sometimes! Each to their own I guess... Democracy and all...
It was in defence. And no one has the "right" to kill, it's a necessary evil that has to be allowed in certain instances. You'd have to be a dunce to not see that lethal force is sometimes required.

Since when is someone missing a checkbox dependent on what Operating System they use? Pretty sure remembering to uncheck everything during an install is a pain in the butt across the board.
So tired of the Us vs Them polarization in everything...

And where on the MBP logic board would you like to place the second video card?
You don't need two video cards to drive two outputs.

This thread is so full of uneducated posts, it's really disgusting. You should've known this would happen, MacRumors. These kind of articles really bring out the worst kind of people. All you fanboys should be ashamed of yourselves, really.

The way I see it is why buy a product when it is being improved (no matter how little or much) and should be the same price or lower... most likely within the next few weeks?
Unless Apple adds a Blu-ray drive in their MBP's (not gonna happen, at least at this point) I doubt we'll see a price increase in those systems when they get teh C2D upgrade. As far as other computers are concerned, I'm not sure--doubt macbooks will increase either since their price tag is so attractive to consumers and competitve with other brands. It seems that the mini has had the most fluid pricing structure, but I could be wrong.

Why? The Intel Integrated 3000 graphics outperform the current Nividia GeForce 320M's found in the current MacBook Airs and outgoing pre-gen MacBook Pro's. So why is an improvement sad?
God why don't people research, unless apple decides to not skip directly to ivy bridge, you will NOT get the same intel sb igp as the mbp 13, instead you will get one that's at least 20-30% slower. Something's had to give to get the 35w tdp on the sb mbp cpus down to the 25w/17w level.

Can they PLEASE enable Jumbo Frames on the new iMacs? It's ridiculous that in order to properly run a SAN at work we need to buy refurbished iMac Intel Core 2 Duos
What about the Mac Pro? It's way past due, would that come first, before the iMac?
Don't look at the Buyers Guide average release time. The past two Mac Pro upgrades have been around the 15 month mark in between releases. At the current rate we'd be lucky to see one around October.

It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.
If "is" means is and never has been, that is not--- that is one thing.
If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement.

Okay --
2) The latest fiber optics tech is out and does more than 100 terabits per second -- or the contents of 250 Double Sided Blu-Ray discs each second. It does it on a SINGLE cable. This isn't tech you buy for your PC, it's tech that the Telco's are putting in to expand broadband coverage.
It will be many many years before that becomes widespread in the US. Until it does, Blu-Ray will remain alive.

Congratulations to apple, eventually this day had to come. Microsoft has been slacking off in the past few years and this will make them see the larger picture.

You mean Powerbook hinges, iBook logic boards, MacBook Random Shutdown Syndrome (RSS) (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=274), eMac logic boards (http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/emac/topic4116.html), Powerbook memory slot, White spots and lines on Powerbook screens, chipping paint, cracked cubes, iMac G5 video and power problems,Apple repair extensions (http://www.apple.com/support/),...
I see your point!
No, I mean the lowest repair/return rate of the whole industry, and the highest praise in terms of support and reliability of the whole market...care to take a look around, perhaps?
We all know how public problems with Apple may get...1 PowerBook down is worth 1000 DOA Dells that never make it to the news...or perhaps you think the existence of MacFixIt means all Macs are cracked...right?

It's just not up-to-date anymore. At least for a company that claims to be on the bleeding edge.
Uh ? My MBA is perfectly up to date. 3G is not a "bleeding edge" feature, it's just a way to create more SKUs uselessly. You need a carrier to get online, the carrier you choose will have the appropriate 3G option for your laptop.
My iPad is not locked into a specific carrier
Yeah, I guess it's not. Which model do you have, the CDMA or GSM ? Is it the one with T-mobile 3G frequencies or AT&T 3G frequencies ? So many SKUs, so little time...
I also do not intend to abuse my iphone as a modem - I don't see why I do have to keep two devices going to get *one* of them online. That iPhone workaround sounds like a real bad excuse to me
Abuse your iPhone ? Apple just made the feature even more easy to use in 4.3 with Personal Hotspot that provides WiFi on top of both USB and Bluetooth for iPhone 4...
I have a 3GS, so I'm stuck with Bluetooth or USB, either of which work fine, worked fine before 4.3. What abuse are you talking about exactly ? And "keeping 2 devices going", uh, I don't shut off my phone because I'm working on the laptop on the go. Since it's one, might as well just use it.
Not to mention my carrier offers tethering free, but charges you 10$ extra to piggie-back 2 devices on the same data plan. Let me see... Free or 10$/month... Free ... 10$/month... Ah, I think I'll take free.
For my laptop I also want to have a different carrier and price plan.
Not a hurdle with USB sticks. With built-in 3G though if you want to switch carriers, you either have to switch to a USB stick for the new carrier or hope your 3G chipsets supports their network.

I'm not so sure that 4GHz is a given. Doesn't that pesky speed of light put a practical cap on clock frequency? At 4GHz a signal doesn't have time to cross the chip in one clock, so is there any point to such high frequencies?
As I said in the last post, Core 2 Duo has already been easily clocked to 4ghz :D http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795&p=18

I don't usually speculate, but I find it interesting "Showtime" is capitalized. Could the downloads be part of some partnership with the cable channel? Just wild speculation on my part.
-p-
I doubt it, but you never know. "Showtime" as a phrase has been around a lot longer than the cable channel. But it definitely does emphasize this event as one that's centered around movies.

What about the security sensitive files in /Library? Such as /Library/InputManagers, /Library/Extensions, /Library/LaunchDaemons, /Library/Security, and etc?
I am pretty sure these only have system with write privileges. No?

I was thinking of buying an iPod Shuffle for my niece for Xmas but she'll be getting something else instead. My MacBook purchase is on hold as well.
Well, always nice to see someone taking a stand! I'm sure your niece will be proud of you too, once she can understand why you did what you did.

Samsung couldn't pull out on any existing deals, otherwise they'd be in breach of contract.
So what? They're already getting sued by Apple, so what's another lawsuit? Point is, contract breach or not, Samsung could cripple Apple's whole ecosystem within days by halting all processor shipments. Apple makes the vast majority on iDevices and this would kill Apple's whole economic model. And this doesn't even account for Samsungs components that go into their Macs. As a result, Apple would have no hardware to sell. They would dip into their treasure chest. It could be devastating to Apple.
