You can get an extra amount by using a .edu account for it. I think it gives you 500mb per invitation or whatever.

That depends on the applications. Some applications broke in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard for example, and shortly after 10.6 became publicly available at the end of August developers released updates for their Leopard compatible software to make it also run in Snow Leopard.
When Lion is finally released, it will have less incompatible applications anyway, as many developers and non-developers are testing 10.7 right now.

I just talked to the people at southgate. I was told the store will open at 10:00am like usual but that they won't start selling the ipad until 5pm. They also said there is a limit of 2 per customer and they don't know which configurations they will have. I'm like you - I don't want to be hanging around forever but it looks like not only will people have to arrive hours early to get a spot in line but they will have to wait until 5:00pm just to buy it. Yikes.

I was coming back from visiting my parents over the weekend and I noticed a strange line of aircraft lining up to land at O'Hare. I was thinking that the planes were way too close to each other to land safely. Upon closer inspection I noticed that they were helicopters, usually when you see more than one helicopter in Chicago either the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup or President Obama is in town. Here are some pictures I snapped with my iPhone, you can sort of see that they are helicopters, I think Obama is in one of the two choppers on the right. Anyway, Happy 49th Birthday Mr. Obama (belated)!

The last photo was taken sometime in May (I think) Obama was heading south down Halsted right by my apartment!

That is false information (as 300D would say ;) :p :D)

2TB is limit of APM, not PPC. AFAIK SATA controller doesn't have a drive size limit.
Over 2TB you need to use GPT. Any OS X up from 10.4.6 is able to partition, mount, read and write GUID. No matter if it's on PPC or Intel Mac. PPC won't only boot off GPT partition.

OP, you should be able to use 3TB HDD in G5 for all but booting purposes (i.e. storage, backup, scratch etc) in OS X 10.4.6 + or 10.5.

    oh... FIXED!

Im looking for some speakers for my iPod touch 4g. They should be under $100 and with great bass, because I will use them mostly for travelling parties. They have to be portable. I would probalby go for this:

    http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/ipod-mp3-speakers/devices/4781

I read reviews and people say speaker is loud and clear and have good bass. It is also portable. Do you think they are good to buy or should I go for something else? Thanks a lot

I don't have that unit, but Logitech dock speakers are usually good bang-for-your-buck. I love their Pure-Fi Anywhere 2. Small & lightweight, can be plugged in or uses an internal rechargable battery. Sounds great despite it's small size. I listen to it outside on the deck, take it on vacations to a condo or hotel, etc. HOWEVER, it's not made to crank super loud like at a party (unless it's a party in a dorm room or similar).

The one you point to is a clock radio, basically, so I also question whether it would get loud enough for your needs. I think you should look at the Logitech S715i.

I like that, wonder if there are any other hidden things like that.

There are. The TextEdit icon is also a tribute to jobs (blow it up.) There are a bunch listed here (http://www.eeggs.com/tree/1141.html), but most are standard Unix easter eggs. There were a bunch from classic Mac OS as well.

    Hmmm, that could be!

I'm looking at buying this one to test:

    http://www.aten.com/products/productItem.php?pid=20080530134132001&psid=2008071410537002&pcid=20050107104612001&layerid=subClass6

I will have to use a Minidisplayport->HDMI from the Mac. Could I experience EDID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_display_identification_data) issues with this?

I remember a DVI-splitter at school, which only worked when I used a Mac with a built-in DVI output. When trying to connect it to my MBP using a DVI-adapter, the screens went black, due to what I think was issues with EDID.

Have you considered going through newegg. For $235 you can get the 120GB hard drive and install it yourself. The process isn't very difficult. Then either get a cheap external case for you old drive to transfer the files and have a portable external. Or if you have a desktop you can transfer your data to it and back. You can also get a 5400RPM 100GB for $155 their isn't much of a difference in storage but the price is half. Just my two cents.

    Ok, here goes.

I've been on these forums for a while, asking for advice on a number of different subjects.

I'm in a bit of trouble. In the three months since I last left my last permenent job, I've had about a week's work. Which isn't paying the bills.

I'm wondering what the hell to do with my life.

I picked up a pencil yesterday for the first time in around two years and found things a little rusty. I used to draw pictures for a living, but now find myself lacking inspiration and motive.

I need some push in the right direction, and some positive interaction.
My website is still up, although the Flash file needs to come down in size.
I need to get back to my creative roots.

    Help me out...?

Hey guys. I've been trying to install windows 7 on my late 2008 unibody MBP for a long time now and am finally deciding to seek help. I took out my optical drive in order to put in a solid state drive, so I'm left bootcamping from a USB superdrive.

When I run the bootcamp assistant to attempt to boot from the external dvdrom I get the error: "BOOTMGR is missing or corrupt. System cannot boot."

I've tried the rEFIt route to boot a bootable USB copy of windows (which I made on a windows machine) and rEFIt lets me see the drive, but right when I try to boot from it and the white windows logo appears, the screen goes black almost instantly. barely catch a glimpse of the white windows EFI boot logo.

My OS X install is separated over two drives (i.e. Home folder on one drive and system files/applications on the solid state drive). Not sure if this has something to do with it? Maybe there is some files necessary for the boot that are on one of the drives?

Anyway. This is extremely aggravating and if anyone can help I will be extremely grateful.
