Bill Gates' money is his own.
However, I imagine stalking elk past department store windows and stinking racks of beautiful rotting dresses and tuxedos on hangers; wearing leather clothes that will last me the rest of my life, and climbing the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. Jack and the beanstalk, I climb up through the dripping forest canopy and the air is so clean I can see tiny figures pounding corn and laying strips of venison to dry in the empty car pool lane of an abandoned superhighway stretching eight-lanes-wide and August-hot for a thousand miles.
(Yes, I would destroy society to save it).

Hi, new to apple products here. Purchased the 4th gen ipod touch and I'm concerned about protecting the front and back. Would buying a zagg invisibleshield full body (front and back) and also pairing it with a hard candy street skin case work? Or do you think the zagg shield on the back would slip out when I try installing it into the case? Any feedback or advice is appreciated. Thanks

Did you get the ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD? When I put mine on, it took about 3 days for all the bubbles to disappear. Though most of the big ones you can squeeze out by using your fingers (being careful not to scratch it).

if apple won't fix my semi broken iphone, I'll be putting it up for like $300. Everything on the phone works fine, except I dropped it, and the volume button is somewhat stuck(you can unstick it, but it goes back...it doesn't have its "click" so it stays down) and the volume is almost always constantly being turned up, and the silence switch is really hard to push back and fourth.
i thought it was a touch? isn't the volume done by touch? are you talking about the hold switch?

4.3.0 sucks bad. Gyroscope isn't recognized by apps that need it, which is a huge bug. Also crap battery life, facetime issues, and other assorted annoyances. I'll take a 4.3.0 jb, but id much prefer 4.3.1.
Not sure what "issues" you're having, but I've had 4.3 (never seen it called "4.3.0" since there's no such thing, Math 101), but I don't have gyro issues, and my battery life is fantastic. I can't say I use facetime much, but when I have I've had no issues. Sounds like you might have a device issue, not a widespread OS issue. When Apple released 4.3, it was widely understood that it was released to plug the jailbreak.... tho it seems for many that "issues" suddenly are realized when Apple releases a "fix" ... I have a feeling that you're the type that if Apple releases 4.3.2 to fix "volume issues" you'll suddenly complain that you hate 4.3.1 because of the volume bug, even though you'd never mentioned it until they said they're fixing it. That's the type of person psychics prey on... lol.
Wouldn't surprise me, it is just a bunch of ungrateful and impatient drones.
This is why I ditched iPhone and went to Android 2 months ago. I got sick of the waiting game for jailbreaks. I have no right to a jailbreak, I just wanted it sooner, and the devs have had a harder and harder time making it happen for every OS release. Android on the other hand, has everything I jailbreak for already built into the OS... widgets, better multitasking, personal hotspot (not ad-hoc crap, etc). I bought an iPad assuming the chatter about "it's almost here" from 3 weeks ago wouldn't be like the Christmas promises that didn't come through till February for iPhone, but again I was disappointed.
Again, I don't feel entitled to something, my frustration isn't with the Dev Team, it's with Apple. They're focusing sooooo much energy on fighting jailbreaking that Android has focused the same time on building the features and OS that users want. If this thing doesn't come out in the next week this iPad is going back. Apple already lost me in the phone business, guess they want to alienate me as a tablet customer too?
Ok, queue the Apple fanboy flamers... it's fine, I can take it. I speak from reality not fanaticism. 1 year ago iOS owned the market, now Android does. Give it one more year and it won't even be close if Apple continues to treat customers like prisoners. That didn't work out well for them in the 80s, which gave MSFT the ammo they needed to permanently take the market, and this isn't panning out any different.

I like it. but your voice is a little flat with the guitar. Also, I recommend adding some of that other talent into your music. Guitar and vocals, thats all you use? Come on, it would sound more beautiful to add some bass, even the Violin or Flute. Im a musician myself, and I play in a band of two violinist, viola, and cello player and we play rock.

The only thing you've succeeded in doing is proving that it's YOU who knows nothing about taxation. How about I list just ONE tax on accumulated wealth?
The Death Tax
The estate tax is a tax on the transfer of money from the estate of someone who died and their heirs. It is collected at the estate level for simplicity and to avoid requiring multiple heirs filing tax returns on the receipt of money.
That is NOT the accumulation of wealth that is being taxed, but the transfer.
So, since you were wrong there, care to try again?
(edit) Just so you don't think I'm being mean, there are some taxes on assets, namely real estate and in some states ad velorem taxes (but I'm not too familiar with that particular tax as it is not in my state).

Both cases have the stretching silicone problem. But the Neohybrid Matte has it worst. Also it does not cover the ports unless you buy the separate covers set.
How about the Neo Hybrid EX.
I just got the Neo Hybrid EX and I love it. I have the Gunmetal one and it looks great, almost looks naked. It comes with front and back films also, although I already had a set on.
I bought it from panicpot.com, they have a TON of popular cases for the iPhone 4 and they're cheaper than most places. You have to wait about 1-2 weeks for your stuff because it comes from China but it's legit. I received my case in about 1 1/2 weeks.

- I added "# 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com" to my hosts file.
Even if you did have the SHSH blobs stored on Saurik's server, the line you added to your hosts file is not going to do you any good as long as that '#' character is at the front. Remove that. It's a comment character...it makes the DNS resolver IGNORE THAT LINE. With # in front of it, it's as if that line wasn't even there.
Whatever site you copied that from that contains the # in front of it is in error.

Wrong on all counts.
1. My jailbroken iPad 1 is perfectly usable thanks & I am very happy with it.
2. I don't defend Apple. I know what they are and accept that.
3. Jail breaking will never be made 'illegal'. what possible crime could it be?
1) Point made, to make it usable the way you want, it must be JB'd.
2) You defend their actions while acting against them. That's hypocrisy.
3) Sorry, didn't mean illegal. They'll lobby washington to pass laws making it more difficult for individuals to defend themselves behind existing protections. It's politics 101.

Easiest thing might be to set up a blog style website, so most of the hard work is done for you. You can then change and alter the look as you go along.
Check out something like Wordpress (http://wordpress.org). As for hosting, I recommend Dreamhost (http://www.dreamhost.com/rewards.cgi?tauquil), a lot of bang for you buck and they have easy one click install for WordPress as a bonus.

if i may piggyback onto this question, as i'm in the same boat currently.
given dante's comments about the color inaccuracies of non-ACD monitors (like the HP specifically), I'm wondering whether the built-in mon on the 17" hi-res is accurate?
i'm planning to upgrade out of both a 2.0 coreduo MBP and dual 2gig G5 PM into a single 17" 2.6/8 hi-res MBP and add a 30" monitor to that for home use. If the 17's internal monitor is respectably accurate for printwork, obviously I'll be able to save a few sheckels on the 30" by going HP (enclosure elegance be damned); on the other hand, if the 17 is not accurate it'll make more sense to spend the dough on an ACD.
your thoughts appreciated!
vic
Hi Vic,
I have a 17" MBP (latest version, 17" 2.6ghz, 4gig ram, high res matte screen, etc) and can comment but first let me clear up your characterization of some of posts when you said "given dante's comments about the color inaccuracies of non-ACD monitors (like the HP specifically), "
Let me be specific, It is not that Non-ACD monitors in general are not color accurate, it's just that a few of the monitors mentioned within this post may be display a wider gamut of colors than SWOP (general characterization of Offset and Web Printing, usually CMYK ink) can actually print.
Some of these wide gamut displays do not calibrate well due to a complex process of color interpolation at the video card level, and some do. The HP LP3065 is one that does:
http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2950
Just wanted to clear this up so as to not bash HP un-needlessly.
Now for the 17" MPB -- it is good, but not great.
First off a thing about the MBP's -- All their displays are 6bit, and not 8bit like the signal going from a Mac Pro to an ACD. Basically this means that the color range of a MBP is not the same as as that of an ACD or other monitor comparable to an ACD. To make up for the less colors, the drivers dither between the comparable colors.
This makes image edit a bit less accurate for sure.
As far as color accuracy, the Matte MBP's are pretty close to a SWOP gamut, especially in terms of brightness and the feel of "paper."
As far as a MBP being a substitute, I guess it really depends on the level of accuracy you need: photos and art for a newspaper are different beasts than photos headed towards fine art, etc.
I hope this helps a bit.

I've always wanted to know what people here are doing with their old Macs when they aren't used as primary computers anymore. I know a ton of PPCs go to work as a secondary computer, but what about those that go to serve another purpose?
I've been particularly interested in iMac G4 mods, but as of late, I'm wondering what others are doing with all of their old computers. Any really cool mods, or ideas out there? I think this would be a good place to share the stories.
There are many who want to give their PPC Mac the Intel upgrade, but I'm particularly interested in seeing all those Macs that have gone on to live totally different lives. Let's hear it!

If they had them, and consequently added probably $100 or more to the price of the display, would you actually commit to buying one... today?
Possibly, but that's a limitation on LCD tech in general which will get better with time, but Apple LCD's at present are probably among the best computer LCD displays available. I don't know what else you'd do until the tech itself improves... except to say this: Those who are really serious about color, clarity and contrast should stick to CRT's for the time being. Nothing beats a Trinitron in this arena.
Probably... but the greater likelihood is that graphic designers who tend to buy the higher end Apple LCD's don't. Matte displays are far better for accurate color and contrast. Glossy displays falsely enrich the image, which is a problem if you're trying to maintain a color match from prepress to proof.
BANG ON MAN, BANG ON.
